It's almost poetic how the 1st post in this thread about these rediculously intrusive ads is totally covered by an ad and made unreadable. Seriously, what's the point in starting a thread if your words are going to be covered by an ad?

It appears the host is just being a d*ck in how they place these ads. ASFN may be jumping the shark - only the great posters are currently saving it.

I'm tempted to ask the mods to put a sticky up in the Cards' forum with instructions how to do that. We all know Keebali will never see it there.

That adblock plus is a free firefox add-on that takes away just about all ads from every website. It also takes away those ugly flash ads that stall page uploads. It also lets you click on an AD and manually filter those ads that the adblock plus couldn't filter the first time around. I love it! :)

I've had adblock plus, which works pretty well, Ad muncher is even better, and takes away the ads from the first post. Unfortunately, its only 30 day free trial...

My screen has ads that actually cover up people's posts! Usually the first post in a thread and sometimes more. Does this happen to anyone else? Ridiculous!

yes... its happenning to me. I cannot usually read the first post on a page as the add is covering it. Sometimes it happens in the middle of the page.

I don't mind ads as long as they are properly placed.

the board has been in decline
I have the same problem, but it is remedied by resizing the window. If you are maximized, click to downsize the window and then restore and the ad will no longer be blocking the post. Or if you are in a partial screen sized window click to maximze.

Yeah, ad muncher takes EVERYTHING away...everything. I've had it for over a year. Luckily, my brother allowed me to use his key. :D

It's really annoying to do have to that all the time, but it works! Thanks for the tip.

Guys and Gals,

I've following the thread and while I understand your view on not wanting the ads... You have to remember that someone needs to pay for the servers and maintenance of the site... I am glad to see the traffic here grow but there are costs associated with it.

You get what you pay for - Perhaps we should have a poll and decide if we rather take some of the ads out and then move asfn to a smaller box that will go down every now and then during peak traffic (games) and stop replying to support tickets. Or keep the ads as they are and the level of uptime and support as it is. It's a zero sum game. If you think someone is getting rich out of this site - you are darn wrong!

Some of the posts on this thread go way beyond proper complaints and fair play. I'd appreciate if you could think twice before posting.

Great customer service motto:

"You get what you pay for."

Fantastic.

Not.

LOL. Now you want to filter what we can complain about? What exactly do you define as a "proper complaint", Alan?

I don't think folks are rebelling against ads per se, we all know there are costs that must be dealt with. The frustration is when the ads totally obscure the actual posts to the point that 1 in 10 are unreadable. If we can't communicate, why even bother coming here? I get the feeling it will only get worse until ASFN eventually becomes a pay only site. That will be a sad day.

What's the deal with the huge ad on the right side if the main message board now? Today is the first day I have noticed it but it takes up about a fourth of the right side of my screen now it sucks

Yeah, but the banner on top appears shorter. Everyday is a new "ad"venture around here! ASFN is like a box of chocolates...........

The one awesome thing about the internet was that it used to be an escape from the constant bombardment of advertisement. No more.

I just disabled noscript to see what the fuss was about....

Holy crap there's a ton of ads on here now. And that GIANT ad to the right that kills page formatting? Nice.

Hey guys...just remember that you get what you pay for!! Ha what a joke: I understand that they need to put ads on here for revenue but come on guys, there has to be a more aesthetically pleasing way to format these advertisements.

Hey, Alan. You get what you pay for. You paid for a site full of loyal members that are accustomed to a) having the site be free AND ad-free, b) ownership that didn't whine about the fact it cost him money, from his own pocket, to run, and c) ownership/moderators that actually cared & worked towards a resolution when problems were brought up.

I understand that the ads are necessary, and you can't obviously keep the board ad free AND free, but the complaints being made are legitimate. There are other options for Cards fans...if you drive all your traffic away with the extremely obtrusive ads, then you're being counter-productive.

I'm not a fan the giant ad on the right side at all. It makes the forum wonky and off-kilter.

Let's see if we can work towards a resolution here...

Which are the top 3 most obtrusive ads? I am not saying we'll take the three out... I'd like to see if we can take 1-2 of the top 3 out, or reformat them in a way they are less bothersome or something.

Can one of you help out by putting up a poll with the ad locations so people can vote?

Thanks Alan, much appreciated. The only ads that really bother me are the ones inserted into a post - especially when it covers up text.
