I think you're right, beerz. I believe that's where I got my Shipp jersey from ... before Emmitt was even being considered for the team.

But it was cool seeing his face when he signed my jersey, he was like OMG someone has my jersey!

No, my question was misunderstood. Would it be in poor taste to get my personalized jersey with the #77 and my name on it?

I'v never seen or heard their names before.

Anyone know any info on them?

Try this link, it's full of Cardinals history:

http://www.angelfire.com/fl/TheCard/chron/chron.html

Here's something on Mauldin:

STAN MAULDIN: The 1948 season began with a rematch of the previous year's championship game. The Cardinals, fresh off a 28-0 victory over the College All-Stars in front of 101,220 fans, downed the Eagles once again on September 24. However, the scene in the Chicago locker room was not one of jubilation as one would have expected after the 21-14 victory. Star tackle Stan Mauldin collapsed in the dressing room. The fans and players who gathered outside would hear the news that the third year player out of Texas had died, of an apparent brain hemorrhage. His #77 would later be retired by the team, one of only four numbers retired by the Cardinals. The others: Larry Wilson's #8, J.V. Cain's #88, and Marshall Goldberg's #99.

And here's what I found on Goldberg:

Marshall "Biggie" Goldberg

Goldberg was a member of two "Dream Backfields," as a college player at the University of Pittsburgh and as a professional player with the NFL's Chicago Cardinals. He became a starter at halfback as a sophomore in 1936 and was an All-American in 1937.

As a senior, Goldberg asked to be moved to fullback, a position that had been depleted by graduation. His coach, Jock Sutherland, warned that it would be difficult to repeat as All-American at a new position, but Goldberg was more interested in the good of the team.

That created the first "Dream Backfield," with Harold Stebbins at quarterback, Dick Cassiano and John Chickerneo at halfbacks. Pitt won 8 of 10 games that season and Goldberg was named All-American fullback.

In 1939, Goldberg joined the NFL's Chicago Cardinals. He missed the 1944 and 1945 seasons while in military service during World War II, then returned to the Cardinals in 1946 and played through 1948. The team's 1946 "Dream Backfield" was made up of Paul Christman at quarterback, Goldberg and Elmer Angsman at halfbacks, and Pat Harder at fullback. In his last two seasons, Goldberg was replaced by Charlie Trippi, but remained with the team as a valuable backup.

As a pro, Goldberg gained 1,644 yards on 476 carries and scored 11 touchdowns. He caught 60 passes for 775 yards and 5 touchdowns.

People do it with hockey jerseys here all the time. I actually had a Bobby Clark #16 with my last name on it. (I can't STAND that guy now.) Also saw a guy with a #1 (Bernie Parent) and he had Klein on the back of it.

We see it all the time at Flyers games. My sister and I always ask "when did we start having So-and-so play on the team?" So, you might get some smart ass comments from good people like that. :) Of course, there are so few people who know who actually PLAYS for the Cards, so you may be safe.

Of course, this doesn't help you with your question of whether or not it's in poor taste, but I thought I'd share it anyway. At least you won't be the only one doing it.

Do you live in Camden? My boys are in West Philly, and I was there a couple weeks back. I saw the Vet from the freeway, and, damn, how are they going to get that thing dressed up in time for Opening Weekend?

Also, how are they going to get the Phillies' new house in order by next Spring?

Thanks for the info and the great link, Ken.

Now I realized I don't know J V Cain either, any one know of him too?

I did find where he was a TE that played 1974-1977.
No great stats.

Then I also saw an interview with Ken Houston, who talked about a game he played against him and metioned he had died.

That's all I could find.

What to do?

Get the jersey and avoid locker rooms after games like the plague!

Personally I like Jstadvl's jersey that says, well it says jstadvl. I'm thinking of going this way with AzCards in the name slot and of course #21. That way it is never out of date. Did I mention I have a T. Jones jersey for sale?

I really couldn't find anything worth cuting and pasting, but JV Cain was a TE for the St. Louis Cardinals from '74 to '77. I believe he died during training camp.

I am going to get a King jersey, #72.

I was born that year so it'll work for ever.

Hey Kerouac, I don't live in Camden. I'm further from the city than that.

As far as getting the Vet dressed up for Opening Weekend, what are you talking about? :) The Phils are already playing (at the Vet) and the Eagles will have a new stadium this fall. The Vet is being taken down, piece by piece, I hear, so it doesn't interfere with the train system.

I hear the new Phils stadium is WAY behind though. Should be interesting.

And Jeff, if we're getting numbers here in NJ, I want to be #1. Is that okay with you? :)

I have both a home and away Plummer Jersey. I usually just move them to the back of my closet once the players move on, but this time, I decided to do something special... I tried to use my Plummer jersey to wash (actually dry) my car.

It shouldn't surprise anyone that it sux for that too.

Go Cards!!!
