It's not quite the same, but the Spurs and Duncan (Robinson) are a similar case. If you really believe that the #1 pick is a long-term difference maker, you figure out a way to make it work.
You can play two good big men at the same time but you can't play two PGs at the same time.

The Suns have proved this over the last couple of seasons.

You can when one is 6'4 -6'5 and scoring wiz. Fultz can play 2 guard. And realistically IT is a scorer as well. Two combo guards might not have been ideal for us but that doesn't mean it can't work.

I would bet anything that will implode. I'm not saying you don't draft him just that it will cause problems. IT will not be happy.

The Suns have shown that you can't do it if both PGs have significant weaknesses and if the coaching staff is incompetent. The Pistons' Thomas/Dumars combo was a successful example of two backcourt-mates who were at least PG-ish, if not both true PGs.

IT can't guard most guards.

I would say the exact opposite in today's NBA. And we tried it with great success when we had a big man that could space the court. It failed when we failed to adequately replace that big man. Most of the league is doing something similar today, very few are putting two true big men on the court together.

I believe you can play two PGs together. The two players have to be accepting of their role though. Ulis showed he can play with another PG last season. One thing that helps though, is Ulis is a true floor leader who places team first. If both PGs always want to be the primary ball handler, then it doesn't work.

Ulis may not be able to guard every guard but he poses problems for the other guards as well.

I feel like the Wall-Beal backcourt has been pretty successful, as well. That team has next to NOTHING but those guys. If they had one legit big man, they'd be scary.

"great success" might be a bit of an overstatement. I think it's hard to argue that a team did anything great when it fails to even win 50 games.

Did anybody hear Casey Jacobson on Gambo yesterday? He said he thought the Suns should trade the #4 for another vet on par with Bled and Chandler.

He said they need the right mix of vets and youngsters. I don't like it either. Hopefully this is just his opinion and not inside info.

I was talking about the pairing, not the team. But, we went 25 - 57 the season before. And then, when both guards played, we went 28 - 15 the next without making major talent changes (mostly Eric and Channing replacing Scola, Gortat & Jermaine O'Neal). That's great success AFAIC.

Rather than starting a new thread with just mock draft info, I thought I'd throw another mock draft I saw today in here...

It's almost like 4 mock's in one because they have 4 analysts/insiders giving their guess on who goes at which spot. All but one of them thinks we'll take Jackson, the other believes we'll go with Tatum but the surprising thing there is he has Ball falling down to the Kings at #5

Yeah not sure about that guy's opinion on the far left but interesting to see so many rate fox so highly at #2. Means we're in with a chance of both ball and Jackson if you believe em, which I like the sounds of.

I think if Ball falls to 4 we might be able to trade down easier. I can definitely see Sacramento wanting him but also Orlando. Both of them have multiple picks this year, I could definitely see Orlando being willing to give up their #6 and #25 pick to move up and get him, if he's there. I don't see Sacramento giving up #5 & #10 to get Ball, or anyone else, at #4 but if any franchise is that stupid it's them. They gave up Cousins for the #10 pick and Buddy Hield, after all. That trade would be as bad as the Bears trading for the #2 overall pick in the NFL draft this year for the #3 overall, their 3rd round, and 4th round picks plus their 3rd round pick next year.

If Ball falls to 4 we take him no questions asked - this is the Phx Suns *********; producers of Kidd, Nash, SSOL and the KJ era...Ball is made for this club with Chriss catching lobs from everywhere and Booker shooting great shots from everywhere.

Of course, it's also the Ryan McDonough era where we draft players like Len, and recruit Chandler but surely even he realises what Ball could resurrect for this club.

I computed the composite rank of the players, where each of the four guys gets equal weight assigned to their ranking. More than 30 (35) players were mentioned which means that some players didn't appear in 4 lists - for each list a player wasn't ranked on he was given a rank of 33. Naturally, the ones above thirty are likely to be part of the pool we'll be drafting from at 32. The number after each player is the sum of the ranks for the four 'mockers'.

1 Markelle Fultz 4
2 Lonzo Ball 12
3 De'Aaron Fox 14
4 Josh Jackson 15
5 Jayson Tatum 19
6 Malik Monk 26
7 Jonathan Isaac 28
8 Dennis Smith 32
9 Lauri Markkanen 34
10 Frank Ntilikina 45
11 Zach Collins 47
12 Justin Jackson 51
13 Donovan Mitchell 52
14 OG Anunoby 55
15 Terrance Ferguson 60
16 Ike Anigbogu 60
17 Jarrett Allen 71
18 Luke Kennard 77
19 Harry Giles 81
20 John Collins 85
21 Justin Patton 86
22 Rodions Kurucs 90
23 T.J. Leaf 97
24 Ivan Rabb 100
25 Jonathan Jeanne 101
26 Semi Ojeleye 106
27 Jawun Evans 108
28 Tyler Lydon 111
29 Isaiah Hartenstein 113
30 Anzejs Pasecniks 117
31 Bam Adebayo 121
32 Caleb Swanigan 123
33 Tony Bradley 126
34 D.J. Wilson 126
35 Jordan Bell 127

LOL, I remember just a couple of weeks ago when I disagreed with the Great Casey Jacobsen and was told what a pretentious fool I was.

When I wrote that I was worried that he had some insight into what the team was actually trying to do.
