Is it possible that the Suns will enter July 1st, with no GM in place?!?

Not a big deal for someone like the blazers with not a lot of cap room, and a big FA with one foot out the door, but for the Phoenix Suns, it is a BIG deal.

With so much interest in Amare, and if he bolts about 8-10 million in cap space, the Suns need a GM that knows what they are doing and can come in and run the organization effectively....

Does Sarver want to wait for a GM, so he can blame it on that as why he let everyone walk this summer and he just happend to save 10 million from being under the cap?! It has literally gotten to that point, where I am half sure that Sarver is manipulating this entire situation to "save face" when everything falls apart in 3 days...

You know one of the most depressing things... While Prokolov is talking Sam Presti, RC Buford, Jerry Colangelo, and Rod Thorne, the only names I have really heard are all their assistants... If we can not land a legit GM (Pritchard anyone?) It wil be sad/pathetic/ and a perfect example just how far the Suns have fallen..

Anyone know any updates, or when a GM will be hired?

I will say this, of all major sports a GM in basketball is the least important, especially when it comes to free agency. The only thing a GM is truly needed for is for trades. With the way the CBA is worked every draft pick knows exactly how much they will make and there is no need to hold out. The top free agents know exactly how much they will make. It is those borderline free agents that a GM will make a difference. For a team like the Suns a GM really isn't that important right now. We have to negotiate with Amare. What that comes down to is will we pay him the max or not. once he is gone we are going to have to wait a few weeks for all the top free agents to sign. Nothing will happen until the top guys are signed.

A lot of these big name FA's will be involved in sign and trades (this potentially includes Amare). We need a GM right now.

I don't think there will be as many sign and trades as you think. There is no way Cleveland or Miami does a sign and trade involving LeBron and Wade. I really don't see the Suns making one either. You can't go to your fan base and say we facilitated the exit of our star player. You are better off saying we tried our best but they weren't having any of it. Even though you get some players back you can't be the person who shipped off that star player.

I disagree. You're right in that it leaves you potentially with egg on your face but so does letting him walk. If you have to choose between get nothing for him and look stupid or get something for him and look stupid I choose get something for him.

In the case of Chicago/Lebron, I can almost guarentee you that Deng will go back to Cleveland as part of the deal.

You'll remember that the Joe Johnson/Rashard Lewis deals were done as a S&T as well.

These players want as much $$$ as possible. There are more teams than available superstars to go around, which means these guys will be able to bid up that extra year. Granted, the packages in return for the superstars will be ugly, but nonetheless there will be trades involved.

One last thing is if Amare goes to Miami, don't be surprised to see us get Beasley in return because it will offset the cost of them acquiring Amare and $arver will be able to say we have a young star to replace him with. Obviously the opinions on Beasley vary widely, but you get the idea.

There is a big difference between JJ/Lewis and LeBron. It is not like those two guys were all the team had. As for Beasley the Suns want no part of him. He is going to smoke his way out of the league.

You're right, they're not Lebron. But think about it, would Chicago rather have control of Lebron for 5 years or 6? Pretty obvious that they want him as long as possible. How do they get that done? S&T with Cleveland. Cleveland would do it because they know he's gone but at least want someone in return (Deng). Chicago would do it because Deng all of the sudden becomes a $12mil bench player.

I don't know why the Cavaliers don't stoke the trade fire again with Phoenix for Amare. They're going to lose their whole franchise without Lebron. They should give Phoenix picks and whatever they want to get it done. If I were the Cavaliers I would not be low balling Phoenix anymore.
