This is a convenient location for access to the East Valley. I'm guessing most of the players live near this area.

Mesa and Apache jct? just kidding I know you meant Paradise.

Should be interesting to see a completion date if it already hasn't been posted.

Its a showcase area of town for selling to free agents. It will probably be convenient to housing for them too. Sarver himself lives just north of Camelback mountain. I imagine the Suns will move offices there too.

Which corner?

I don't think it's a corner, says north of camelback. Looking at google maps, my best guess is where windy city djs are, directly across from steak 44.

44th Street north of Camelback (leading up to Paradise Valley
and Tatum Blvd.) is a sophisticated business neighborhood.

'Good choice.

They're going to have to tear something down because there is no space to build a practice facility in that area.

Yep. I’m guessing the ugly building and gas station SW corner. Back in the day there used to have a drive thru Jack In The Box that was tunneled thru it.

Most of the players live in PV, Old Town and the Biltmore so that’s a nice location.

I probably balled vs you guys at the village and didn’t know it. Run it back!
In fact, in a run there I snapped a wing off one of my vertebrae in December of 1992 or January of 93. That was memorable.

Why aren't they building it downtown?

They want it as close to Scottsdale as they can get it, because most the players live there.

The idea is they can come and go 24/7 so they want to make it convienent, but the city funding required it be built in Phoenix.

I probably have it wrong but I thought the City was only doing the arena and that this facility was funded by Sarver and the Suns?

I don't think they want it near the Arena, the trend now apparently is to have the practice facility well removed from where all the team activity is.

It is, but it being built in phoenix was part of the deal.

I'm surprised they were able to find an available chunk of land in the Arcadia area, downtown would have been much more difficult.

Also, the Cardinals train in Tempe and play in Glendale. Such arrangements are not unusual.

I grew up near there too. 44th and Thomas anyway. A little lower down the economic scale, but still close. I used to have a paper route that surrounded Gerard High School if anyone remembers it.

There is a Raquet Club just east of 44th and Camelback that could probably carve out space for the Suns practice facility. I bet that is where it will go.

That’s the village. I doubt they give up any land. The other corners are more likely targets.

If I owned that facility, I would be scrambling to get the Suns facility on site. It would bring in a lot of business and Suns trainers could moonlight at the facility if they wanted. A lot of synergy possible. It looks like they have a lot of square footage there too.

They don’t need it. They are a high end club that caters to the PV area. I think the last thing they want is to have sections of their club that are either permanently off limits or off limits at certain times. Again they cater to high end clients. These are people that bristle when told “no.” And they don’t need it unless they want to change their business design.
