"Bryan Colangelo laughed off rumors of a trade involving Amare Stoudemire and Tracy McGrady. He says he has no plans of trading Stoudemire anywhere, according to Florida Today. ... The Arizona Republic is reporting that Kobe Bryant will either remain with the Lakers or sign with the Suns this offseason, according to those with knowledge of his situation. ... The Arizona Republic reports that the likelihood of the Suns selecting Martynas Andriuskevicius with the No. 7 pick isn't very strong. Andriuskevicius is expected to remain in Europe if he isn't a top-5 selection. Other players the team is reportedly interested in include Josh Smith and Andre Iguodala." :hulk:

How old is this? BC made those comments like 10-12 days ago.....

Most of the rumors are old except that Kobe narrowing down to two teams! ;) Hence the bold of the comment! ;)

one way or another - this I can assure you - Shaq and Kobe will NEVER play with each other again after the Finals - Never have those two actually been sinping at each other when it came to this time of year. Living in LA - believe me - it's ugly. Kobe finally has a chance to be rid of Shaq - I think it's gonna come down to this - He's gonna go to Buss and say it's me or Shaq and if Buss won't trade Shaq, Kobe's as good as a Sun. Mark it down - either Kobe's a Sun or Shaq's no longer a Laker.

I wonder what the Lakers could get for Shaq? You think Indiana would swing a Jermaine O'Neal/Al Harrington/Tinsely deal for Shaq? Don't even know if that would work numbers wise - but I would think that Indiana is so desperate for a title after 10 years of knocking on the door that they might sacrifice their future for a couple titles with Shaq, Artest, Reggie and someone for the 4.5 exception - that team could be pretty good in the East.

I agree about this once-again-developing/evolving saga of Kobe v. Shaq.

Shaq, in my mind, could be dealt. The power play is on.

I'm thinking Mark Cuban may want to jump into the fray and "rescue" Shaq from the quagmire.

Dirk Nowitzki, Michael Finley and Josh Howard would be enough to get this deal done. Not sure how it works out in the $$$ department, though.

This much is for sure... L.A. is in deep trouble if they don't become proactive. They risk losing Kobe for nothing (barring a sign/trade).

Phil J. would probably welcome a challenge for the first time in his life.

We'll see how this plays out... but my guess is PHX will play a big part in determing the direction of L.A..

Shaq has said he would retire if Jackson wasn't his coach. He could basically veto any trade by saying he will just quit. Why would he want to play for a team that will have to give up most of their good stars to get him??

Due to the salary, Shaq's attitude I think he is nearly untradable.

Then let him quit. The Lakers would get the cap space. Playing for Mark Cuban is not a BAD thing. Shaq would rule Dallas for years.

Lose Kobe for nuttin'. Or, deal Shaq. The Lakers may be forced into this.

DISCLAIMER: That being said, I think this scenario only plays itself out if the Lakers leave Detroit with their tails between their legs. Shaq is currently keeping L.A. in this one.

If Shaq brings L.A. back from the dead, he's not going anywhere.

I thought even if a player retired their contract still counted on the cap

I am pretty sure if a player "officially" retires, then his salary is removed from the cap the following season, since his contract is void.

However, since the NBA has guaranteed contracts, players often say they retire but never file the paperwork. The net effect is they still recieve their checks, the team still has them count on their cap, and they don't play.

The last big example I can think of is Hakeem in Toronto. I would almost guarantee Shaq would take a similar approach, there is no way he gives up the 60 million he is owed.

I'm not sure how realistic any of these trades involving Shaquille O'Neal are, but one thing is for certain. Mark Cuban would appreciate the hell out of Shaq in Dallas. I'm just eyeballing these numbers, but what about a trade where Dallas sends Antoine Walker, Dirk Nowitzki, and Josh Howard to the Lakers for Shaquille O'Neal. Well, I thought that would help neck summer with their salary cap. They would still be right about at the salary cap even after Walker's contract expired however.

The problem with the Dallas Mavericks making a trade is that Dirk Nowitzki is really their only guy with a maximum contract right now that is arguably worth that much money.

I believe CBS is referring to one of Gamble's articles in Arizona Republic for the Kobe Bryant rumors.

What were the circumstances with Rex Chapman....wasn't his salary on the books for a few years after he played his last game???

That's wrong.

The salary of the retired player will come of the books after two years when he suffered the career-ending injury if he doesn't play more than 10 (?) games since then.

What if Shaq doesn't have a career ending injury, and just refuses to play?

The team files a grievence with the player's union and they don't pay him, but he still counts against the cap

Is that a realistic option?

According to Shaq it is. He has said many times he wont play for anyone but Jackson. I guess Dallas is the only team he might accept, simply because he has the best chance for the monster extension with Cuban in charge.
