Nice. you want to take a cheap shot about how his dad died too?

So are you really ripping Brian or are you just having a Wedding Singer moment? Hope it's the latter because I see nothing wrong with the assumed DUI comments even if they prove false. She has enough history to warrant this kind of reaction.

Wait, seriously? Sure, Stoudemire's mother was probably driving drunk, and that's a big no-no. But there are thousands of drunk drivers out there every day, and you don't see BIM making a sanctimonious post about each one of them. His only motivation was to shame the Suns and their fans by association to the estranged mother of one of their players.

Hell, most everyone on this board already knows that Stoudemire's mother is a loser; Amar'e himself probably feels the same way most of the time. BIM's holier-than-thou condemnation serves only one purpose, which is to create the illusion that he and his are on a higher moral plane than the rest of us. It's standard right-wing knee-jerk oneupsmanship.

Well, that's too bad. It's a dumb but funny movie that affords Adam Sandler the opportunity to use a line quite similar to yours.

I didn't mean to imply that you find DUI's to be a laughing matter but I really see nothing wrong with people jumping to a conclusion regarding Amare's mother.

It's a personal topic with me. I've lost friends to drunk-drivers and was hit head-on by a drunk-driver on an otherwise beautiful Sunday afternoon in Mesa. The drunk then proceeded to get his young son out of his vehicle and flee the scene. I was recovering from what just happened and making sure my wife and her grandma were okay, so I was unable to go after him. Luckily some eyewitnesses tracked the SOB to a strip mall pizzeria where he had taken a seat and ordered two sodas. In the end he was hit with 4 felonies and numerous other charges. Didn't change the fact that he totaled our vehicle, injured us and could have killed someone including his son and he really did not care.

I've never driven drunk and never will, so if that makes me holier than thou well, so be it. I rip ANYONE who gets behind the wheel drunk. Period. Zero tolerance. I don't care if it is John Q. Public, Leonard Little (murderer), Amare's mom, a teenager, a middle-aged guy, an elderly woman, - it doesn't matter...THERE IS NO EXCUSE...NONE...to ever drive drunk.

BTW: Here are a few times I've called out stars and reported about random wrecks...

Glad he didn't kill himself or anyone else while he was driving around drunk.

LOSER :|

Hey, Joey: "Take some of your millions, find a sober person, and make him your driver."

Man, some of these people will never learn.

We'll have to wait and see. Drunk drivers, even ones who kill, are often given a slap on the wrist compared to what they deserve.

Too bad Donte couldn't afford to hire a driver for his Bentley...oh wait....:doi:

Teen killed by drunk driver on her way to band practice

Sunday, November 16, 2008

GILBERT - A Gilbert teen was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver.

Police say 16-year old Kelly Tracy was driving to band practice at Highland High school with her brother Saturday when Manuel Contreras Galdean turned in front of the car causing the deadly crash.

Police say Tracy was airlifted to a local hospital where she later died. Kelly's brother who was driving the car at the time was taken to a different hospital where she was treated and released.

Reportedly, Galdean admits to being in the country illegally. He is charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault.

Two accounts have been set up in the Tracy family name, one at Chase bank and the other at Washington Mutual.

-----------------------------------------------------

Very sad. They were both going to go to the Gilbert Days' festival and play with their band in the parade.

Driver shouldn't have been in the country let alone drunk behind the wheel of a vehicle.

Driver Charged With Vehicular Homicide After Pickup Hits Minivan, Killing Mom and 4 Kids
Associated Press
December 31, 2007
TOLEDO, Ohio

A drunken driver from Michigan sped down a highway in the wrong direction for about seven miles before his pickup truck slammed into a minivan carrying a family home after a holiday trip, police said.

A woman and four children in the minivan, including two authorities say were from Michigan, were killed in the crash that scattered toys, stuffed animals and bits of gift wrap along the edge of the road.

Tests showed that the pickup truck's wrong-way driver had a blood-alcohol level of .254 percent, more than three times the legal limit in Ohio of .08, police said.

Michael Gagnon, 24, of Adrian, Mich., was charged Monday with aggravated vehicular homicide. His speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol at the crash scene, according to a police report.

His truck was going north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 280 Sunday night, fire officials said.

Three of the victims were a mother from Maryland and her two children.

Bethany Griffin, 36, Jordan Griffin, 10, and Verde Griffin, 6 months, all of Parkville, Md., were killed along with Lacie Burkman, 7, and Haley Burkman, 10, both of Redford Township, Mich., near Detroit, according to the Lucas County Coroner's office.

Both drivers tried to avoid each other, but the crash ripped a side door off the minivan, throwing out some of the victims.

An infant seat wrapped with pink baby blankets landed in the roadway.

"It was among the worst I've seen," assistant fire chief Luis Santiago said.

A man and two other children from the minivan were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Santiago said.

Danny Griffin Jr., 36, of Parkville, Md., was listed in serious condition; Sidney Griffin, 8, also of Parkville, was in critical condition; and Beu Burkman, 8, was in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Gagnon also was taken to a hospital, but his injuries were not as serious, Santiago said. There was no telephone listing for him or his family in Adrian.

Samuel Gagnon, Michael Gagnon's brother, told The (Baltimore) Sun that he, his brother and their cousins were drinking at a hotel.

Their sister was supposed to drive them home, but Gagnon said his brother took off in the truck without telling anyone.

"I don't know why he decided to leave," Samuel Gagnon told the newspaper. "Everyone's in shock. We're supposed to be celebrating the New Year, but now I got to look forward to my brother in jail the rest of his life."

When reached later by The Associated Press, Samuel Gagnon declined comment.

Michael Gagnon stopped at a fast-food restaurant in a Toledo suburb just before the crash, said Lt. Hank Everitt of the Oregon police department.

Workers at the restaurant called police, but Gagnon left before an officer arrived, Everitt said. Soon after, a 911 call came in about a wrong-way driver on the interstate.

Other drivers also alerted police just before the crash.

Wrong-way drunk driver kills family

The Associated Press
Nov 13, 2006

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -
A pickup truck going the wrong way on a highway struck a minivan, killing five members of a family heading home from a soccer tournament. The pickup's driver, whose blood alcohol content was four times the state's legal limit, later died.

Dana Papst, 43, was driving the wrong way on Interstate 25 near Santa Fe Saturday night when his truck hit the minivan, said Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano.

Solano said blood samples showed Papst had a blood-alcohol content of 0.32 percent — four times the limit for driving. Authorities also found an open container of alcohol in his truck.

The five family members killed were Paul Gonzales, 36; his wife, Renee, 39; and daughters Jacqueline Gonzales, 11 and Selena Gonzales, 10; and Alicia Garcia, 17.

Arissa Garcia, 15, another daughter, survived and was hospitalized with injuries.

Papst was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where he died early Sunday morning. He had a valid New Mexico license and had been convicted at least three times — in 1989, 1990 and 1991 — of drunken driving in Colorado, Solano said.

The family was heading home from a soccer tournament in which Selena and Jacqueline participated, said their grandfather, Ralph Gonzales.

Gonzales said he talked to his son around 5 p.m. that day and said what most dads would say.

"I told them 'Be careful coming home,'" Gonzales said.

Hours later, Gonzales listened to news reports detailing the collision.

Now he's questioning how a drunken driver could have taken the lives of his family.

"I thought that with all the legislation and the laws ... that this kind of thing wasn't supposed to happen anymore," he said.

See DUI: driving drunk without regard to the lives of others on the road. That explains a lot more about his character than what he accomplished on the field.

Well, I certainly never thought of it in that light. I'm not sure that you're right but since it's a Lakers fan you're talking about I have no problem with throwing a bunch of insults his way just in case he's guilty. They have enough banners they can survive a few insults, justified or not. Down with Brian!;)

It definitely sucks to be seriously victimized by someone else's carelessness, recklessness, self-centeredness, or whatever one wants to call it. You have my condolences. I also have something of a personal crusade against drunk drivers, although for reasons less dramatic than yours, and I am also steadfast in my refusal to get behind the wheel if there might be any alcohol in my system. (I'm also enraged by drivers who use cell phones.)

But I maintain that going after Stoudemire's mother was a cheap shot. She doesn't read this board, and it's extremely unlikely that anyone here would defend her actions. Rallying against drunk drivers is great, and I'll cheer you on, but singling out one who happens to be related to a Suns player -- against that Suns player's will, it is worth noting -- is inflammatory for reasons that don't help your cause.

I only said what I say about anyone who drives drunk or is arrested on suspicions of having done so...how is that going after her...or a cheap shot?

Instead of this:

Glad she didn't kill herself or anyone else while she was driving around drunk.

LOSER :|

I said:

I guess we're all "lucky" she didn't hit or kill any of us.

I have no vendetta against her. I didn't create this thread. I would have posted the same type of post regardless of who she is - the fact that she is a player's mom doesn't make her a celebrity or more/less a target for my venting.

Anyone who drives a vehicle not equipped with a breathalyzer device - after being ordered to do so by a judge - is a freaking idiot and a loser. Even if she wasn't drunk this time, she has shown she does not take the judge, the courts, or the severity of her prior actions seriously.

Yeah, I just skimmed the 'Melo DUI thread and the cell phone info presented.

I hate what cell phones have done to everyday driving. My wife and I carpool and see so many bad drivers on the road each day. Someone driving super slow in the fast lane? Another nearly sideswipes you? It seems like 7/10 times you can bet they're gabbing away on the phone. UGH.

My wife always says "How dare you want to drive and possibly interrupt their very important conversation." :D

Seriously though...it has only gotten worse with texting and internet-capable phones...it is a recipe for disaster. Handheld distractions on the roadway.

I'm not gonna lie.. before I got my iphone 2 years ago I used to have my laptop sitting on the center console pointed at me.

I am now a grandma driver in a track built car now due to lessons learned from ticket after ticket. Over my dead body will you now see me going over 40-45 on the streets and over 60 on the highway

Eh, As much as I rip on Amare for his on court play....I feel really bad for Amare and his family background. From Amare dad dying in his sleep, His half brother being in jail, and his mom personal battle with drugs....I feel sorry for the dude, I really do.:(

I feel ya. I used to lift weights and do aerobics while driving, but stupid Scottsdale cops kept giving me tickets so I had to stop.

I still don't get how he can be a Laker fan AND a Cardinals fan.
Shouldn't he be a Rams or Raider fan?

He deserves a lot of credit for the man he's become. He's done it with almost no role model of note and that's not easy.

I think it's obvious why he opted for the Cardinals and I don't even know the guy. If he pointed out a dangling participle to a Rams fan he'd get a glassy eyed stare and if he did the same to a Raiders fan the best he cold hope for is a beer to the face. Cardinals fans are a different breed, we could care less about syntax and we're not letting go of our beer until the last drop is gone.

I think you're wayyyy off on the eric, but I think that's because you don't read the Cards board where BIM is pretty consistent with his slamming of DUI cases and drivers, whether they're a rival of ours or even a Cardinal player himself. He's pretty consistent e.

I would NEVER be a fan of the Cardinals if they left Phoenix. I'd root for them to lose with every bone in my body, thus I can understand not being a Rams or Raider fan if he was from LA.

That's when I stopped supporting the Rams. Would anyone on here be a St. Louis Suns fan?
