The New York Giants landed their franchise quarterback at the NFL draft in Green Bay on Thursday night, trading back into the first round to select Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart, a player they had been eyeing throughout the predraft process.
Here are five things to know about Dart:
Dart was born on May 13, 2003, in Kaysville, Utah. He attended Corner Canyon High School in Draper. As a senior, Dart was named the Gatorade Player of the Year and the MaxPreps National Player of the Year. He was a four-star recruit by both Rivals.com and 247Sports.
He began his college career at USC after turning down an offer to play at Arizona State. After one year in Los Angeles, Dart transferred to Ole Miss after incoming head coach Lincoln Riley brought future Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams in to play quarterback. Williams ended up being the top overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.
Dart played three seasons at Oxford, starting 44 of 45 games and compiling a 28-10 record. As a senior, Dart completed 276 of 398 passes (a 69.3 percentage) for 4,279 yards with 29 touchdowns and just six interceptions. He rushed for 1,498 yards and 14 touchdowns in his three seasons with the Rebels.
Dart stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 223 pounds. He has an arm length of 30 inches and a hand size of 9 1/2. The Utah native has excellent field generalship and an athletic skill set to play in today's NFL.
Dart attended the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in February. He did not run the 40 but did throw, per Yahoo Sports.
"Dart put on a show at the combine, going 18 of 23 and showing he's capable of making just about every pass," wrote Dan Rorabaugh. "His completion percentage would have been even higher if not for a couple of drops by his receivers. Dart showcased arm power and precision on each variety of pass that could see him move up draft boards."
NFL.com analyst Ian Rapoport reported that Dart "put on a show" at the Ole Miss Pro Day.
Dart, due to his location at Ole Miss, has become fairly close with another Rebels legend, Eli Manning. Dart has competed at the Manning Passing Academy and Eli has watched his career closely.
"He's been a huge role model for me," Dart said of Eli earlier this year. "Somebody who has shed a lot of wisdom throughout my time at Ole Miss. … [He's someone] I've really looked up to. We've definitely had those conversations. He's a legend. Anytime when you're around that Hall of Fame style of a player, you want to take little pieces and learn as much as you can."
