The New York Giants are hoping they can land their quarterback of the future with the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Odds are they will get the chance.

But what if they don't? That's exactly what happens in the latest mock draft by Pro Football Focus' Josh Liskiewitz. The Tennessee Titans nab Miami's Cam Ward and Cleveland follows by selecting Colorado's Shedeur Sanders, taking away the Giants' two top-rated quarterback prospects.

There's a silver lining in everything, however. The rush on quarterbacks drops Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter right Into the Giants' lap.

Carter is considered Pro Bowl material and reminds many of another Penn State defender, Micah Parsons.

Key Stat: Carter’s 92.4 PFF pass-rush grade in 2024 ranked second among FBS edge defenders.

Bottom Line: It's hard not to see some Micah Parsons in Carter, who not only wears the same No. 11 but also pops off the screen nearly every play due to being a rare caliber athlete. If he can get even stronger, he has All-Pro potential as a player worthy of a top-five pick.

The Giants have a solid group of pass rushers already with Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux and the recently signed Chauncey Golston. Adding Carter would seem like overkill when they need upgrades in so many other areas.

By selecting Carter, the Giants are also bypassing Colorado's Travis Hunter, the explosive two-way Heisman Trophy winner, who could upgrade them in all three facets of the roster.

There is also the possibility of a trade back should Ward and Sanders both be off the board at No. 3. That would require a trade partner willing to move up and there doesn't appear to be many of those.
