These players find a way to get open speed or not

And they catch the ball and hang on to it
Yup. Sometimes it’s small area quickness and sometimes it’s craft like how to set up a defender. But IMO quickness and speed, whilst different, are two types of the same thing - a physical advantage that can be exploited to gain good to great separation.

All speed is not created equal.

I grew up on a dairy farm. There were times when the cows got out and we had to go chase them through corn fields, hilly terrain, creeks, etc.

Put me up against some of the high school football players in a 40 yard dash, they probably blow me away. Have them chase crazy cows and not knowing their next move, I would excel.

Guess I had country boy speed, lol.

This just became one of my favorite ASFN stories. How is your screen name not ChaserOfCrazyCows?

Holy moly, you're right. Deebo ran 4.48 at the combine.

Anquan ran... wait for it....

4.73! Glacially slow for a WR. Amazing Boldin had the amount of success that he did.
Not really it’s irrelevant. Jerry Rice ran in the 4.7 range and was never caught from behind ever. When you’re good you’re good.

Speed isn’t irrelevant. But rather, timed speed that doesn’t translate to the field is irrelevant. Timed speed that does is extremely relevant. See Steve smith. Can’t call his speed irrelevant.

In the end if a player can play it is irrelevant. You can have a blazer who can translate speed to the field and be a blazer and still suck total balls. Obviously for the Steve Smiths and Tyreek Hills of the world they have both. But measured time like Q and Rice it was completely irrelevant.
