The New York Giants hold the third overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft. The best-case scenario is that they find their franchise quarterback without trading up and surrendering additional draft capital.
The worst-case scenario according to Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus?
Maybe not, but since quarterback is their biggest need, the aforementioned scenario is not optimal.
The Giants would then be faced with a dilemma, but one that the rest of the NFL would envy. They would have their choice of Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter and Colorado DB/WR Travis Hunter, the Heisman Trophy winner. Not to mention that general manager Joe Schoen's phone would be blowing up with trade offers.
More from PFF:
Quarterbacks have been getting overdrafted for some time now. With the bust rate at over 50 percent because of NFL teams fearing on missing out on a franchise player, we're seeing young quarterbacks being asked to perform at a high level right out of the box. They are thrust into action way too soon causing them to fail and therefore get discarded by the teams who draft them.
The Giants have actually been one of the most gun-shy teams when it comes to taking quarterbacks in the draft over the past several years. They haven't drafted one since they took Daniel Jones sixth overall back in 2019.
That's five straight drafts without taking a quarterback. And you wonder why they have been residing at the bottom of the league for the past decade.

If Big Blue can't trade up and Miami's Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders Colorado go 1-2, it would put the team in a tricky spot.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen was an active buyer on defense, shoring up his secondary with high-upside, young talents Jevon Holland and Paulson Adebo. Still, New York has been left in the lurch at quarterback as it entertains Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. Neither would deter the team from doing what many expect: drafting a signal-caller within the first three picks.
Rumors have already percolated about Schoen trying to trade up to first overall, which still feels possible. But if the Titans want to stick and pick Cam Ward at that spot, then the Browns might feel pressured to select Shedeur Sanders at Pick No. 2. In that case, Schoen would almost certainly miss out on the draft’s premier gunslingers for a second straight year, forced into a consolation prize of someone like Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart or Tyler Shough in Round 2 — any of whom might be taken before they should.
