NFL could play in Germany by 2017, China by 2018

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...l-could-play-in-germany-by-2017-china-by-2018

The NFL hasn't shied away from expanding its reach overseas. The league is returning to Mexico City in 2016 and has been open about their aspirations to go above and beyond their second home in England.

According to NFL Media's Albert Breer, that could involve a regular-season game in China as early as 2018 and Germany in 2017. Fox Sports first reported the development on China.

The league recently mentioned Germany and Brazil as potential destinations along with an expanded commitment to the United Kingdom. Jaguars owner Shad Khan recently extended his commitment to England for five years, with an additional option to make it an agreement through 2025. The league will also be playing at a second stadium -- Twickenham Stadium -- in 2016.

Me neither. Why does the NFL feel the need to export American culture? Oh, right ... the almighty $$$

If anything they should play the Pro Bowl there.

Won't be much of one if they did. You think players back out now, wait until they'd have to fly half way around the world. That said, it isn't a bad idea to play some kind of all star game there although by all star I'm talking about players like Ryan Fitzpatrick and his caliber.

I am fundamentally opposed to doing anything that might remotely financially benefit China. This is what is commonly referred to as jumping the shark.

Playing the NFL in foreign countries is so stupid IMO. It keeps 1 team from having 8 actual home games & the travel is ridiculously unfair to both teams.

If the NFL ever puts a team permanately in another country it just magnifies the unfairness to teams. :bang:

If they keep going down this road, there are going to be more games overseas than here at home - just dumb and blatantly unfair to fans. Maybe Mark Cuban is right

The almighty $ rules. You can make 1000 arguments to not play overseas but in the end it's all about the Benjamins.

While the NFL is a national league, the number of followers and fans in Asia and Europe is growing very fast. I've been travelling to Europe for a few years and in 2010 nobody could name a player other than Manning and Brady, let alone understand the rules. Nowadays Europeans who learned about the game just a couple of years ago know the rules better than most casual American followers, they have favorite teams and players as well.

From an economical standpoint Godell would be stupid to forfeit the potential $ slumbering overseas. From an emotional standpoint it's a disaster though.

Good, then condense our watered down (QB-wise) version here in the states to one conference, and make the other the Euro League, and the two conference winners across the pond from each other.... can play in the Super Bowl.

Oh wait..... that wouldn't make sense either would it? :doi:

If the assclown Goodell is really making 34 million a year, revenue is fine.
The guy has done all but slash the throat of the Golden Goose, and it's still raising it's profits every year, in spite of his mismanagement.

Leave it alone.

+1

Not fair to make these team travel so far to play a game. Then travel to come home and play again.

So we can solve the eneptitude of referees by making the Euros fans refs? Lol;):D

Btw that's such a ridiculous statement by you IMO.

Pretty dumb idea. Do not mind games in London or maybe Germany. Gives the military members in those countries a chance to see a live game in person. But China and the rest if the far east is way to far away for this.

Why is it so ridiculous? Not sure how you can disprove what he said.... unless you are going to correct his minor spelling mistake.

The travel is sucky and the loss of a home game for a team is awful (except for the Jaguars) but my biggest concern is security. France and now Brussels are examples of what could happen and I would think an NFL game would be a huge target.

Say what you will about the Freedom Act and Homeland Security but we seem to be doing a remarkable job in the USA of preventing terrorist attacks.

RIP to the victims of these attacks.

The travel to Asia is BRUTAL, I know it took me a few days to adjust to the time difference when I went got stationed in Japan. I would imagine it would be rough...even if they had a bye week going in or out of the game.

You really believe Euros know the rules better than most fans of the NFL who have been watching the game most of their lives? Lol ok. If you believe that maybe you can convince me Kurt Warners gonna come out retirement to rescue the Cards once Carson leaves the Redbirds :D

He said casual fans. Europeans, once "into" a sport, are generally All in. Theres a definite difference between EU and US sports fans. No question. Its an interesting thought, one that cant be dismissed out of hand.

Its also irrelevant, so Im not sure why you chose that point to pick a fight about.

To be honest when u have passion for something u learn it pretty fast and the rules too
But in europe maybe just in germany or Holland they have a sufficient number of people very passionate about American football.
I live in italy and in 56 mil of italian people there are just like 2000 people very interested
