Don't the rosters turn over every year in the NFLE? It seems like if some players stuck with a team year after year the popularity would grow faster, due to the fact that you could begin watching palyers grow. OR you could watch Chris Greasy suck, and say "the Cardinals cut him."

Actually the maginot line would have been a good defense, except they only made the maginot line on the border of Germany.

So what did those germans do, they went north and invaded some of those countries up there like belgium and stuff, then came back down and invaded France from the North.

They just went around the maginot line.

On another note, I remember watching a game that was played in one of the german cities, and they were telling how the kids down there play football like our kids do here on the streets.

Then they showed some of the little germans playing. I thought this was awesome and thought it was catching on. I guess now its only in Germany.

I guess the other countries are too enamored with soccer and rugby.

Not to knock soccer, but imo I just can't watch it.

Its frustrating...Its like constant turnovers.

It would be like watching a football team drive down the field, and oops turn over, then they drive down the field, whoops turnover. Over, and Over, and Over, and Over and in a short timeframe. It happens so much that none of it is exciting to me. Guys tripping each other, and a weird extra time thing for the penalties....I never got how you are supposed to know how much time is left????Was is 2, 3 , 4 minutes of penalty time? It would be hard to coach or play like that. 2-1 score is like an average score. Soccer is fun to play though, but to watch is murder imo. But its cool if you like soccer, if you can get off on it, more power to you.

If you guys know, besides scoring, what are the types of soccer plays that get fans riled up????

Like for football its big hits, nice catches, nice runs, breaking tackles, etc.

Had similar dicsussions over here before. Most folks in the USA have a some romantic view of events in european history. Either that or they believe the media.

I all we hear over here (from the media) is how self centered and anglophobic (ie anybody who speaks English) the French are. I mean nobody who ever lived in Britain could believe that for a minute ;) .

I never understood it myself. After 27 years they kicked me out of the country because I had a genetic defect and didn't like soccer :)

And English is a Germanic language.

No it isn't, if anything it is closer to french as the normans (being the last succesful invasion) spoke french. In reality it a mixture of many lanuages but definatly more frnsch that germanic.

You may be thinking of some of the other lanugages left around the British Isles. Galic I think may be germanic in origin but is hardly in common usage.

Well, according to the Encarta Encyclopedia it is.

"English belongs to the Anglo-Frisian group within the western branch of the Germanic languages, a sub-family of the Indo-European languages. It is related most closely to the Frisian language, to a lesser extent to Netherlandic (Dutch-Flemish) and the Low German dialects, and more distantly to Modern High German"

(Frisian, by the way, is spoken in parts of the Netherlands and Germany.)

I was just about to say the same thing. :D Most of my family is German. My grandparents and my mother are 100%. I was going to comment on how similar the German and English languages are with alot of the words almost the same. My wife is 100% Irish and I can tell you from experience with her and her family that they do not consider themselves English in any way. Whenever this type of conversation comes up between me and her, I always finish it with her by saying, ( Hun, do you have any German in you. She replys no. I say do you want some.:D )

I agree, the German and English languages have many words in common, for example, hamburg, leiderhosen, Mosel, and Balogna. We're practically cousins :D
