All NFL exhibition games on TV

May 3, 2004
NEW YORK (AP) -- All of the NFL's 65 exhibition games this season will be available on television for the first time.

The league's four network partners -- ABC, CBS, ESPN and Fox -- will show 11 games, and NFL Network will broadcast the other 54. Some NFL Network games will be shown on tape delay during the four weeks of exhibition play.

NFL Network, which is carried on various services, is shown seven days a week, around the clock.

That's great because I have had NFL Sunday Ticket since 1997 and have never seen the Cardinals play until the season opener. If you have the Fox Sports package they always blackout the NFL preseason games with their disclaimer "the game not available in your area." With the price of NFL Sunday Ticket $179 (for earlybird renewal) it's only fitting the league allow it's subscribers to enjoy the preseason games. The NFL Network needs additional programming since they repeat many of their shows several times a day. My next purchase will be the DirecTV/TIVO receiver package which will allow me to digitially record all Cardinal games to a harddrive without any programming setup.

I upgraded to the TIVO receiver in March, and it has been the best money I've ever spent. You are going to love it!

No one gives a rat's damn about preseason football games except guess who?

We Cardinal fans. That's who.

It's our first chance to see how our rookies and free agent pickups look in real games wearing real pads and getting hit by real opponents.

But the road has been a long and arduous one.

Early on, it was not only practically impossible for an out-of-towner to watch one on TV, the local dailies wouldn't even report the final scores let alone the line stats or a write up.

Then it was praying that a Cardinal preseason game would be selected by one of the nets for national showing (Yeah, right! Maybe an occasional Sunday nighter. Maybe).

When the answer to our regular season prayers (DirecTV) became available (changing the lives of Cardinal fans across this great nation of ours) things became more promising. FoxSportsAZ would schedule most of the games (some on delay). If not, FoxSportsWest, West2 or Northwest could be expected to pick up the slack since we tended to play a lot of AFC West teams.

Problem was - Weird and archaic blackout arrangements which more often than not kicked in at the last minute (once 5 minutes into a game!!!!) to bite you on the butt.

We thought we had the problem licked last year with the anticipated launch of NFL Network, but the launch was delayed and we were left with (Thank God at least for that!) Internet Radio on NFL.com.

Now (at least according to the press release) our dreams will be realized.

Is there anyone out there who can't wait to see what happens when Anquan and Fitz are executing their routes and Josh McC is eyeballing the coverage getting ready to air it out?

Yippeee!

Once you get TIVO you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

It's basicly a smart VCR on steroids.

1) you never load or rewind tapes - It's always ready to record.

2) you find your shows in their TV Guide type feature and push a button to say "Record this Show". Then it gives you options? Season's Pass (record all new shows this season), "record every week", "record any show that matches it?". All sorts of choices.

So set it once and it's done for the year.

Next, I have a zone more Me, Wife and Each Kid.
In the Kid zone, I have it set to record their favorite show : example PoKemon. I've got it setup so it records the lastest 4 shows and after that, it auto-deletes the oldest show when it records the newest show. That way they have 4 to choose from and never miss an espoide.

Hey, you can pause it when the kids yell, wife bellows, or the pizza man shows up at the door.

Tivo also tries to figure out what shows you like based on your selections and at night or when no-one is watching TV, it records shows that you might like. Found several new shows this way.

Basicly TIVO complete unties you from the TV schedule. Also, I have my remote set so you can 30 second skip to miss commericials so I rarely watch tv live anymore.

Instead of haveing to watch TV on their set time, I just get up everyday and know my favorate 3 shows were recorded and are ready for me.

It's the only way to go.

It's the best fathers day present you can "Have the kids get you" you'll ever receive. Trust me! It's worth it.

Grrrrrrrreeeeeeeeaaaaaaattttttt!!!!!

I've always tried to go to local sports bars here in the southwest Chicago suburbs, hoping they would tune 1 of their TV's to the Cards game. More often then not, they couldn't find the game, blah, blah, blah, and I'd end up going home disappointed.
It's about time somebody pulled their head out of their arse!!!

Well I must say it will be nice to finally get the Cardinals exhibition games on TV now. However, I guess it is safe to say our games will be on tape delay. Only question is just how delayed? Hours? Days?

Watching a game several days after the fact is not very appealing to me. Given the Cardinals lack of national appeal I am sure we will get the least desirable time slot. I hope our pre-season opponents have national appeal.

This sucks!

I get them all up here in Vegas live on a UPN channel. Wonder if that will change now that the other netwroks are involved? Hope not!

I'm also pretty sure that our Tivos can download recorded programs to a DVD, although I haven't got a DVD yet to make sure. You could have a DVD collection of all the Cardinals games! I think that would be cool.

As far as the preseason games on the NFL network, that rocks. Cardinal fans with direct TV are in high cotton now. :p

I'm going record every second of every pre-season game. I want to see what all the fuss about his Parsons kid is about.

I am going to guess that if the games are NOT sold out, they wil lbe blacked out in the team's local area, not shown live, and then maybe on delayed tape.

Many teams have sellouts for all 10 games at home, regular season and pre season. They will be the ones to get their games LIVE. IMO, of course.

I can for the Metrodome. I don't really want them to play too much in that game. That place is a deathtrap for our players. However, perhaps the Cards players have been receiving season-ending injuries because their easy camps didn't toughen them up. This year, it may be different.

The good thing about this is that in PHX AZTV covers the preseason and since I have Directv I didnt get them last year. And yes, the Directv Tivo reciever is the best invention ever. I also got a Gateway DVD recorder to go with it which is a great companion. Tons of Cards footage on DVD.
