Bodha, jumping over the center on a FG breaks 3-4 different NFL rules. It's only been allowed to happen because it's an exciting play & because the refs are afraid to enforce the rules.

Honestly man, you sound like a Seattle fan whose afraid his teams illegal competitive advantage is being taken away.
Guess i'm in the opposite camp and think the NFL should promote/encourage exciting plays like this. Let touching or pushing off be ok, but maybe said jumping player has to line up 5yrds back until the play clock is at 5sec or less.

Or since the player can't line up over center, make the D have to add an extra player on the side the player is lined up on so the offense has a weighted opportunity to run the ball to the opposite side. This could turn an xp into a possible 2pt conversion or a 4th and short into a possible first down.

I'd rather the NFL figure out how to make exciting plays better rather than getting rid of them. Just my .02

So long as the rules are applied equally and every team know their ins and outs - I'm cool with that.

The impression I got was that Seattle and possibly a few other teams did their homework, discovered a loop-hole and took advantage of their opposing teams' ignorance &/or neglect.

Although it's up to each team to understand the rules, the League has the obligation to see to it that all 32 teams know what the deal is in all areas of the sport.

9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and Lebanon. None of those countries are on the travel ban.

Here's the problem with that... 1 of the rules says that on FGs and Punts, the defense can't get a running start towards the line of scrimmage (which leapers do). If you get rid of that rule, then players will also be able to get a running start on punt block attempts while the offensive line has to remain completely still... which makes it a lot harder to block someone coming in at full speed.

I remember there being another rule stating that you couldn't leap over the pile unless you originally lined up on the line of scrimmage (then backed up after the snap, ran forward & jumped over). Then there's also the rule about being lined up over center/over the center & within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped... the majority of the leaps happen right as the ball is snapped so that the center doesn't have time to stand up & stop the leap. Then there's the rule about not being able to make contact with players on the line of scrimmage when leaping or using your arms to propel yourself over the pile... which the NFL commissioner diluted down to "not landing on people".

Getting rid of all of those rules that are in place to protect the offensive teams players just for the sake of an exciting play seems reckless to me.

This is a non issue. Change the cadence and have the center either stand up or just raise his arm to make contact. You will get the flag every time for illegal contact or offsides.
So you want our long snapper kicked or knee'd in the face rather than actually enforce the rules as they're written that I wrote a few posts ago.

Again, if the leapers times it right then he's already jumped into the air to go over the center as the ball is snapped... even if the center stands straight up there's no guarantee he stops him because the guy has an illegal 5 yard sprint approach.

Besides, raising arms up & making contact with the leaper still didn't get us a flag against Seattle on our missed OT kick last year.

Based on these rules a jumper should be flagged every time he does it. He breaks all of these existing rules. The problem is the refs are not enforcing the rules as written.

I have no issue at all with players leaping as long as they enforce the current rules. It makes it more exciting to me. Kicks have been too automatic over the years. That's why I also loved moving the extra points back too.

Football players should not be allowed to leap under any circumstance. :)

Too much risk in a violent game.

They've also changed instant replay rules. Referee's will now watch replays on tablets (rather than going under the hood) & talk with Blandino & his staff during the replay. Blandino & staff will have final say on the replay ruling.

They've also changed procedures for returning a player to the active ranks from lists such as physically unable to perform, non-football injury or non-football illness. Although the article doesn't say how it has been changed.

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other. With 4 artificial limbs, I wouldn't be able to leap over the OL to block a kick any more anyway. Nowadays I prefer to simply give the opposing kicker the Evil Eye while he is setting up to kick it. If that doesn't work on a particular kicker, then next time right when his leg starts back to kick it, I let out a big loud fart to distract him. Even it that doesn't work, it usually gets big laughs from the OL.
