We can't lose to the 49ers. I doubt it will be a cakewalk, but we'll win. Their coach sounds a lot like Dave McGinnis when he was our coach- trying to put a good spin on garbage:
49ers | Nolan has higher expectations for A. Smith in 2006
Fri, 28 Jul 2006 23:01:43 -0700
During his press conference, San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said his expectations are higher for QB Alex D. Smith in his second season. Nolan said, "My expectations are higher. His should be higher. Our football teams' are higher, of him. All of that applies that pressure to him. If you're a competitor, as all of the players are out here, that pressure should not disrupt what you are doing. If anything, it should make you compete at a higher level. When you pump up the competition on the football field, you find out real quick who the competitors are. Those are the guys you win championships with. Those are the guys I'm looking for. If somebody backs down to the competition, you might be the starter, but if I see that, and when I see that, that guy is really on a fast track to being the backup."
49ers | Nolan comfortable with his third quarterback situation
Fri, 28 Jul 2006 23:01:15 -0700
During his press conference, San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan said he is confident the team will be okay with their No. 3 quarterback. Nolan said, " I think the two guys that we have competing for that right now will give us a good third. We also have [RB] Michael Robinson and [WR] Arnaz Battle. We have a lot of guys that if it just doesn't pan out, and nobody grabs it, we've got a third guy. I'm confident that we're going to be okay at that situation.
49ers | Team concerned about WR position
Fri, 28 Jul 2006 21:53:26 -0700
Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers see the wide receiver position as an area concern because of WR Arnaz Battle's (knee) troublesome right knee. Battle, a projected starter, is scheduled to practice once a day because of irritation in his knee that causes swelling. The condition kept him out of six games last season and less than full strength for all but 2 ½ games. "There are no moves or anything right now," head coach Mike Nolan said. "We've talked quite a bit and we've been talking for a while about several guys. I don't want to say something's brewing, because it's not. Obviously, you want to know if the price is right. Right now, nothing is on the table."
