Sorry for bumping an old thread but I have a couple of questions and statements.
How is sattelite better than cable? (besides sunday ticket)... I haven't experienced any or many disruptions in my service, have access to just about every channel...just not the variety tier, and latina tier. (and the sports tier, which I'll be getting shortly now that the NFL network is going to be on it). I get like 40-50 movie channels, not to mention the 10 lower rated ones in the 180-190 range you know flix, sundance, eaction, etc.
I'm just wondering what the difference is?
The HD channels are great, the drawback is that (and not cox's fault) that some stations it seems aren't broadcasting in hd. It's like regular tv, but a tiny bit better.
What Cox needs to do is get UPN in hd as well as TNT. There were plenty of good NBA games I had to watch in non-hd on my hdtv and the station proudly proclaiming it being broadcast on HD. (Not to mention a couple of more channels in HD would be nice....I know they're coming)
Hopefully a few more hd channels will be available when they add the NFL network....usually they add a few channels to their listings at one time. So the NFL network addition I would suspect won't be the only alteration in their lineup. I think I'm going to ask them that when I order the sports tier in about an hour.
The one question I have (probably for the atlantacards fan (sorry for sp)) is about the blockiness of the broadcasts. It's seems to me at least, it is a signal strength issue.
On my hdtv, and earlier on my non-hdtv when a fast moving scene occured, blockiness would happen. It happens on hdtv channels and non-hdtv channels. I thought it might be some sort of low quality scanning in my low end hdtv ($499 30 inch widescreen from Kmart at the end of january), but I've never seen this blockiness occur when I for instance play a dvd which does have fast action scenes....so my thought is that it is occuring on the cable end. (unless its a faulty tv connector jack..which it probably isn't)
Any thoughts to this blockiness? It's not the blockiness error freezing thing which happens from time to time. It's actual blockiness caused by fast movement. It's sort of annoying, but not so bad. When it's not blocky (and most of the time it isn't), the HD service looks unbelievable. It IS as big of a change as from b&w to color. At least from my perspective.
Thanx
