directv is so much better than cable its rediculous and the sunday ticket is subscribed to in almost every sports bar in america. the only people who bash directv are people who have never had directv. i had cox and directv and cox isnt even in the same league.

clif, obviously you've never had Direct TV if you think the Sunday Ticket is the only thing that keeps them in business.

yeah I did... I had them for about 6 months, but I got tired of losing the signal

digital is digital no matter who the provider is. Of course satellite would be better since all their channels are digital. As someone pointed out earlier.. the only reason all of Cox's channels aren't digital is because of laws that require some channels to be available via open air access.

I believe there is a federal mandate that all channels be broadcast in high def in less than 5 years so there are big changes coming.

Trust me I am not a real supporter of Cox, but I think their products are built on different rules than what satellite has to adhere to.

I'm happy with Cox. I have season tickets so I always get to see the Cards. I don't need NFL Ticket.

The mandate is for digital broadcast by 2007. The current analog bandwidth for UHF/VHF is being reassigned by the FCC.

There is no requirement for Hi Def which is a resolution format rather than a transmission method.

Cable blows. Dropping cable was one of the best decisions I ever made. The only drawback to satellite is you can lose the signal in a storm, but I've never had that interfere with football.

no arguement from me.. I didnt remember the particulars about whether it was HD specific or just digital in general.

I think the main reason I do have Cable over satellite is for the High speed internet. never liked the cost of DSL or the Broadband (if there's a difference)

On a side note, I do hope that the improvements continue so that the cost of HD drops so us "po' folk" can get it... :D

You can buy the high speed internet without the TV service. I did.

And, yes, we are very bored!

The internet service is $10 more per month if you don't have another COX serivice (phone or cable tv).

BTW, didn't the Cardinals start a 3 week training camp today? Is there any news from Tempe? Any updates on the Boldin contract situation?

How many more days until the pre-season?

I agree with you on that point. Cable is MUCH better than DSL or Broadband for the internet as I've had all 3 and I stuck with cable. The only problem with cable is that it really slows down during peak times.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I have a couple of questions and statements.

How is sattelite better than cable? (besides sunday ticket)... I haven't experienced any or many disruptions in my service, have access to just about every channel...just not the variety tier, and latina tier. (and the sports tier, which I'll be getting shortly now that the NFL network is going to be on it). I get like 40-50 movie channels, not to mention the 10 lower rated ones in the 180-190 range you know flix, sundance, eaction, etc.
I'm just wondering what the difference is?

The HD channels are great, the drawback is that (and not cox's fault) that some stations it seems aren't broadcasting in hd. It's like regular tv, but a tiny bit better.

What Cox needs to do is get UPN in hd as well as TNT. There were plenty of good NBA games I had to watch in non-hd on my hdtv and the station proudly proclaiming it being broadcast on HD. (Not to mention a couple of more channels in HD would be nice....I know they're coming)

Hopefully a few more hd channels will be available when they add the NFL network....usually they add a few channels to their listings at one time. So the NFL network addition I would suspect won't be the only alteration in their lineup. I think I'm going to ask them that when I order the sports tier in about an hour.

The one question I have (probably for the atlantacards fan (sorry for sp)) is about the blockiness of the broadcasts. It's seems to me at least, it is a signal strength issue.

On my hdtv, and earlier on my non-hdtv when a fast moving scene occured, blockiness would happen. It happens on hdtv channels and non-hdtv channels. I thought it might be some sort of low quality scanning in my low end hdtv ($499 30 inch widescreen from Kmart at the end of january), but I've never seen this blockiness occur when I for instance play a dvd which does have fast action scenes....so my thought is that it is occuring on the cable end. (unless its a faulty tv connector jack..which it probably isn't)

Any thoughts to this blockiness? It's not the blockiness error freezing thing which happens from time to time. It's actual blockiness caused by fast movement. It's sort of annoying, but not so bad. When it's not blocky (and most of the time it isn't), the HD service looks unbelievable. It IS as big of a change as from b&w to color. At least from my perspective.

Thanx
