I wonder why the word Normal was in both school titles?

Found a list of former ASU names

Territorial Normal School (1885–1889) Tempe Normal School of Arizona (1889–1903) Tempe Normal School (1903–1925) Tempe State Teachers College (1925–1929) Arizona State Teachers College (1929–1945) Arizona State College (1945–1958)

The University of Arizona was never a “normal” school

Normal school is used to describe colleges that were originally established to educate future teachers

NAU has gone through a variety of names, but their original name was Northern Arizona normal school
