NFL Network rankings came out. ey leap frogged the Patriots over us so we are still #2. Had a feeling they were going to do that.

I had the same feeling but for some reason, I'd rather be at #2. Weird, but I'm more comfy there. :p

Yeah, I would have Denver over us, New England...maybe, Indy is close, both Green Bay and New Orleans are terrible matchups for us. I don't know. We have a really good record, but anytime you are lacking a pass rush along with consistent offense, things can go off the rails quickly.

Record aside, I'd still put NE and Denver ahead of us.
No clue why you would say that. There is absolutely no logic to it. You're talking about a Patriots team that, just two weeks ago, beat the Jets by 2 at home. A Patriots team that got pasted by the Chiefs in Week 4 even worse than Arizona's Week 4 loss to Denver. The only way you put New England ahead of Arizona is if you only count the most recent game. And even there, I'm not sure it's valid.

I agree about Denver and the Pats even though I would like to see how we would have done with Palmer in Denver or even at home.

Since I'm lazy and haven't paid much attention to anything but their record, how do you think we match up with Detroit? IIRC, Peterson has played pretty well against Megatron. Am I wrong about that?

I keep laughing at the disrespect... just unbelievable how much no one wants to trust the Cardinals. And it's because we're the Cardinals, no more.

I keep hearing people saying we got "blown out" in Denver, but that game wasn't a blow out. It's the kind of game that stays close until something catastrophic happens. If we don't lose Calais and keep Stanton upright, the Cards probably hang within a reasonable amount of that 3 point 4th quarter differential.

I want a rematch with Denver! And I bet the Cards would pick that option too!

Blow out? Bah!

I remember when we were all upset that power polls had us in the twenties, times have changed, arguing we should be #1.

Good times.

Happy to be in the top five because this is far from a exact science and with only half the season in, the true result will show itself in the upcoming games... then once the playoffs start things can still totally change, but I am liking our chances :)

1. Patriots - Gronk is Gronking and OL healthy
2. Broncos - most talented team in the league
3. Cardinals - keep finding ways despite early deficits
4. Steelers - 124 points in their last 3 games
5. Lions - grinding out wins like us
6. Chiefs - quietly playing great
7. Eagles - winning ugly

Seahawks/Cowboys/Dolphins/Chargers/Bengals/Colts/Packers in that next tier...

Lions are grinding out wins against the likes of the Falcons. I think they are ready to return to the middle of the pack where they belong.

That idiot Schwab on Yahoo makes it seem like the Cards are down there with the Falcons or Bears. Here's how he talks about us beating Dallas:

Here's what we learned about the Cowboys on Sunday: When they lose a top-10 quarterback they can't beat a team like the Cardinals. So they're like every other team. *shrugs*

Then for the Cards, at #3, he says:

I'm not saying they don't deserve their record. But if you look close at some of the metrics (yards per play, yards per play allowed, point differential, Football Outsiders' DVOA, to name a few), they're not too inspiring. I can't make the case they're better than the two teams ahead of them.

Completely ignoring the fact that in 7 wins 4 have come against SD, SF, Philly, and Dallas, the fact that our defense, while giving up yards, doesn't give up points willingly, and that no one can run on us, even the top back in the league. No, he twists himself into a pretzel finding excuses not to put us ahead of the sexy boys.

I've got no problem with us being #2. We've got some solid wins, but two of our "signature" wins (SD and SF) looked a lot better three weeks ago and while we're winning, we've yet to really blow anyone out, while The Broncos and Pats have been absolutely drilling teams in their victories.

#2 or #3 seems about right to me. The Dallas game was a good start to showing we can pull away from teams, but I think people are gonna need to see us really put a hurting on a couple teams to be deemed the best team in the NFL at this point.

regardless, #2 or #3 at this point in the year, with all the losses we've suffered, is pretty damn incredible and I'll enjoy the hell out of that, as opposed to getting mad about quibbling over power rankings that don't matter at all.

Alright, I know it is just the media but that one comment about "like the Cardinals" makes me want to virtually punch him :D

I don't really care much about power rankings but I will say I think we should be #1. The only reason we aren't is because we're the Cardinals.

Flip the argument around for a minute: if Denver or NE had OUR record against OUR level of competition they would both be #1 and there would be no question about it.

In fact, not only would they be #1 in the rankings but they would be talked about as DOMINANT at 7-1.

Furthermore, if they were 7-1 with our schedule, with our injuries, while using a 2nd and 3rd string QB in the process, they would be talking SB contender and Billichek would be hailed as a mastermind and one of the best coaches in history.

This isn't even conjecture at this point, everyone knows it's true. So put us at 2 or 5 or whatever, I just want to wreck the division, lay waste in the playoffs, and play a home SB. Then these hacks will say they knew it all along.

As BA put it in the locker room , it's easier to get to #1 than it is to stay there , so I'm okay with #2 for the rest of the season . Let our guy's feel disrespect at #2 , instead of going into relax (we have arrived) at #1 mode . I'm all for anything that might prevent that elevator ride , "you know" the one from the penthouse to the S---house , or to be more direct , the 2 week ride the Cowboys just took !!!

I think the "not letting anyone dress in their lockers" speech is motivation enough. But if they need another: "Do it while we have the best DC in the league" works too.

Week Nine power rankings

You must be registered for see images

1. Arizona Cardinals (last week No. 2; 7-1): Bruce Arians doesn’t want the Cardinals to let anyone else dress in their lockers during Super Bowl week. If winning the NFC title doesn’t work, we suggest storing rotten eggs there.

2. New England Patriots (No. 5; 7-2): Shame on anyone who pointed out that the Patriots stunk back when they, you know, stunk.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (No. 4; 6-2): Chip Kelly says DeMeco Ryans is the team’s Mufasa. Which makes sense coming from a guy who’s built a little like Pumbaa.

4. Denver Broncos (Last week No. 1; 6-2): The Denver scoreboard operator says Peyton Manning didn’t have a very good day.

5. Detroit Lions (No. 6; 6-2): Lions teams of recent years would find a way to blow this.

6. Dallas Cowboys (No. 3; 6-3): Does England recognize the medical credentials of a non-licensed, non-practicing physician who owns a football team?

7. Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 15; 6-3): Martavis Bryant is helping Ben Roethlisberger make a lot of money.

8. Indianapolis Colts (No. 9; 6-3): Eli isn’t the Manning the Colts need to be worried about.

9. Green Bay Packers (No. 8; 5-3): Eddie Vedder would still take Aaron Rodgers with a bad hamstring over Jay Cutler.

10. Seattle Seahawks (No. 11; 5-3): Close wins over winless teams won’t do much to change the perception that the Seahawks aren’t who we thought they were.
