Hey guys… Let me start by saying that I am not a Cardinals fan. I am a Titans fan, and will be one until the day I die – whether we win the big game or not.

The reason I am posting is to talk with Cardinals fans about the NFL’s 2009 power rankings. I was absolute sickened when I noticed that the Titans had been overshadowed by teams like the Chargers, Colts, Eagles, Giants, and Falcons. Then I realized that the Cardinals were just one spot below the Titans… That’s really not cool. Seriously, you guys were in the Super Bowl!!! It’s just disrespectful to have EIGHT teams ranked ahead of the NFC Champions. I see no reason that the Cardinals should not be a top 5 team. “The experts” are full of crap. I’ll be pulling for you guys this season… with the exception of week 12, of course. ;)

I was just prompted with a message saying I need to make 20 posts before posting a link (I was going to submit a link to the power rankings). I'll list the top 10 teams, according to NFL.com.

1. Steelers
2. Patriots
3. Eagles
4. Giants
5. Colts
6. Ravens
7. Falcons
8. Chargers
9. Cardinals
10. Titans

Unbelievable.

I think the Cards rankings here are affected by the 'superbowl loser syndrome', their weak division and a 9-7 record last season. I would bump them up a couple notches, though. The Titans are a top 5 team and I can't see how they see them at 10th.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d810536b4&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=trueLink to said article. Being #9 is confusing. I'd say we're better than the Falcons (proved it on the head-to-head), Chargers, Eagles (also proven on the head-to-head), and potentially the Colts.

I assume the Titans took a massive blow in the power rankings because of the loss of Haynesworth. He was a terror the past two years, but the Titans might have pulled out of that one alive because Haynesworth will now be an unmotivated, fat sack of $100m.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The "fat sack" is also getting sued for $7.5mil by a local here in Nashville... He was driving recklessly and nailed some guy doing 103. He hasn't been able to walk since this wreck which took place in December, I believe.

I, unlike the majority of my fellow Titans fans, was happy we didn't keep him. There's a reason his production was at an all time high in '07 and '08... contract. Smart guy, in that sense... but he's going to be a waste. The Redskins will have a great defense, but they'll probably end up 8-8 again... maybe 9-7. They're a sloppy organization. Snyder pours out the money like no other... $100mil on Fat Albert; $54mil on DeAngelo Hall. Hall is one of the most overrated corners in the league, but he's one of the highest paid thanks to Dan Snyder.

About the Cardinals being #9... "The experts" may use the excuse that you guys lost your offensive and defensive coordinators, but they have the Colts at #5. The Colts have lost their head coach, defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator, special teams coach, o-line coach, and quarterbacks coach. Sounds like a team in turmoil to me.

I still think the Titans are better than the Steelers although I'll obviously admit that we shouldn't be ranked ahead of them. We stomped them last year without KVB and Haynesworth... Now, we'll have KVB back and plenty of offensive additions. I bet you guys miss KVB, huh? :D If we play our game on September 10th, we will come out on top. The Patriots and Ravens are the only two teams that I never want to see in the playoffs... They've always had our number. It would be nice to get revenge though.

I would love to see some more towel stomping. I want the Titans to fill the bathrooms with yellow toilet paper next time the Steelers come to town.

Those are possibly two of the most thoughtful and sensible posts I have ever read from a first-time visiting fan. Kudos to you.

I too hate the Ravens with a passion, well done.

As far as the rankings go, we Cardinal fans are well accustomed to watching our team be ignored, disrespected and ridiculued. I would think you Titans' fans would be getting kinda used to it as well. It seems you guys never get the respect you deserve and Since McNair left I rarely hear anything about Tennessee.

I wanted Chris Johnson soooooo bad in the draft last year and I hate you for getting him btw :)

+1

(except for the Johnson stuff....cmon MD - We got a potential star (and key to our SB run) at one of the three hardest positions to fill in the first round last year. DRC > Chris Johnson)

Ravenssuck you know your stuff. Good posts.

Let us not forget that in the regular season we were a 9-7 team not a 13-3 team. We finished strong and healthy. I can easily see where this team could be ranked 9 or 10. Can we stay healthy? Can Warner and Fitz do what they did last year? We will have players gone and new players here. I sure do not see us as a top 5 team. Only if the ball bounces our way and our new RB can run. We still have a lot of questions to be answered and players to be signed who can make a difference between winning and losing.

Something that totally escapes my way of thinking is the thought that an athlete at any level would dog it or not play his best. I never played anything higher than small college basketball but from the day I first played any sport I always played the best I could not matter the score or the odds. I just cannot get it into my head that any athlete would intentionally play less than his or her best. I would think trying to win would almost be in your genes no matter where you are in the standings. I guess i live in the land of Oz.

I don't really have any problem with this, since the other contenders are just as reasonable a bet as the Cards. Arizona was 9-7 last year in a weak division (which will be better this year) and has only one deep playoff run to its name. Maybe I'm still hungover from years of mediocrity, but top 10 seems pretty solid to me.

If suddenly we're 4-0 and not being taken seriously, then I'll take issue.

I love the Titans but don't like their QB situation. If the passing game was a wee bit better, I'd have them at the top. Love WR Kenny Britt. Until we show defensive improvement, I would not rank us above 10.

My top three pre-season right now are:

1. Pittsburgh
2. San Diego
3. Tennessee

The only teams I take issue with on that list are the Colts and the Patriots. Golden boy brady has not taken a snap since his surgery, ranking them that high is based on pure speculation. Give em top 10 if you want, but 2? And I am putting my money on the Colts missing the playoffs this year, but again, every Manning is a golden boy in the eyes of the pundits, so critical thinking about the entire time goes completely out the window.

I loved the Titans back in the old Houston Oiler Warren Moon days. Might have been my second favorite team back then.

Totally fair. But I think we're especially likely to see this sort of thing in pre-season polls. Just as in college, where a traditionally strong program always gets the nod over an equally strong newcomer. People think Indy will fall off, but some still need to see it happen. The Pats were 11-5 and made the playoffs without Brady, and many assume he'll be back as good as ever. We'll see.

Kind of like how in baseball, for years I never picked anyone to take the division away from the Braves until they actually did it. And I hated the Braves.

Oh no, I couldn't be happier with the DRC pick, I was just saying that I really wanted Chris Johnson at the time and in retrospect he would not have been a bad pick either. Whne we took DRC I was hoping and praying we would trade upo to get Johnson in late 1st/early 2nd.

How'd that home field work out for ya?

That towel stomping worked just as well for the Titans as it did for Cincinnati in 2005. One and done for the towel stompers, rings for the towel wavers.

That being said, the Titans should be ahead of the Eagles, Giants, Falcons, and Chargers on that list.

Eh... I know it didn't work, but I wouldn't say cockiness was the reason we lost. Our boys were ready to play... Alge and LenWhale ruined it for us.

The matchup was the issue. I think the Titans need to get over their fear of the Ravens and Patriots. I think our new defensive coordinator, Chuck Cecil, will actually be an improvement compared to our whipy ex-coordinator, Jim Schwartz. Cecil is hardass and he will come up with good blitz packages Schwartz rarely blitzed... he didn't have the guts to do it. He relied on our defensive line to get the job done... that credit goes to Jim Washburn - best D-line coach in the NFL. We can't rely on our D-line (as much) anymore.

I respect the Steelers. I was just playin' around about the towel stomping and toilet paper. :)

There was no point in stomping the towel. I understand that... although I really feel like it was blown way, way, way out of proportion.

I do not respect the Ravens... never will... I shouldn't say 'never,' but they've always had a poor attitude. Ray Lewis makes me sick. When Willis McGahee was down on the ground, seriously injured, Ray Ray over-emphasized his prayer to look like a good guy. I don't mean to sound like a d-bag when I say this stuff, but in all honesty, he was absolutely full of crap. If you're going to pray, you better damn well be sincere. He just wanted the attention.

P.S. thanks to those who have given me props... Btw, CJ is a beast! He is our MVP without doubt. If he didn't go down against the Ravens, the Titans would finally have received the respect they deserve. It's a shame. I'm not sure how he could run if he wasn't behind the best O-line in the league though.
