I know this has been covered before but I'm older now and can't remember stuff as well.

This is my first season with HDTV. So I need to know first are all the games broadcast in HD and second do you have to buy the superfan package to get the games in HD?

Yes you have to buy superfan "technically" I called and complained and they gave it to me for free.

The add says get "nearly" every game in HD. So there may be a few that you dont I assume.

Being your first year, they may just give you SF if you ask. Tell them you want to try it out before buying. Otherwise, you could always threaten to cancel :D. I think they'll usually give it to you free the first year.

Well they did give it to me for free because we've "been such a loyal customer." We've had Sunday ticket and max programming package since day one.

DTv has always treated us great.

Starting this year, all NFL games are required to be presented in HD. To that end, DirecTV has moved the HD broadcasts to MPEG4 channels to make room for the bandwidth.

There should be no game this year available in SD only whether part of the Sunday Ticket package or otherwise.

I thought it was 2009 that HD was required, as FOX and CBS's C and D broadcast crews still get the crappy equipment.

every year they give it to me free....I call and say I'll drop it if they don't give it to me. They don't bat an eye...it's always free. Direct TV ALWAYS gives me ALL the movie channels for free as well - year round. How? I say I want them for free or I'm leaving to cable....takes about 2 minutes and they always say yes. It costs them nothing to give them. The last thing I threw out to them and they agreed was to lower my bill by 10 bucks a month...surprisingly they said yes....saves me 120 per mo.

You are correct. It is 2009 that all games are required to be in HD, but ESPN, NFLN and NBC have been doing all games in HD for some time, and Fox and CBS have already promised to do every game that way. The only possible HD glitch would be CBS:

Notably, among NFC teams (since CBS makes all AFC teams have lower counts than NFC), the Cardinals have had the fewest games in HD with 43 appearances. In 15th Place: Carolina with 54.

I wonder how they'll justify Superfan next year. This year you have to have SF to get the HD games. If they are all in HD,it eliminates the need for SF. They'll probably just raise the price again.

Remember that SF has all of those auxiliary services aside from the HD. They may just roll the entire cost into next season and offer it as one package.

I wonder the same thing. My prediction is that they will do away with SF, and jack the price of ST up to 299.
