The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million deal on Tuesday. It's a move that sets the Patriots up with a No. 1 wideout and offensive weapon for quarterback Drake Maye.
Naturally, the news set off shock waves on social media for a Patriots team that has been looking to land a true No. 1 wide receiver ever since the departure of Randy Moss in 2010.
Diggs is coming off a season that saw him record 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns with the Houston Texans. His year was cut short due to a torn ACL injury.
If not for the injury, he was averaging enough yards to hit his seventh straight 1,000-yard receiving season.
The NFL social media community had strong reactions to Diggs joining the Patriots, and we picked out some of the best ones.

The Diggs move may be a response to the Giants signing Russ and the patriots feeling Travis Hunter would be off the board

Stefon Diggs to the Pats?! Man, as a Pats fan from Providence, this one hits different. $69M for a 31-year-old WR post-ACL… Belichick would NEVER. But hey, new era, new moves. Big risk or big reward?#NFL#Patriots#StefonDiggs

Sheesh, Diggs is not worth that type of money. But the patriots are desperate and Diggs used that as leverage. Makes sense https://t.co/WTjpxCA09F

Diggs is a great vet pickup for the Patriots but I still think they should draft another receiver in the draft. Even if it's not Travis Hunter.

Stefon Diggs has been one of the most underrated players in the NFL for a few years now. How he'll look coming off of a torn ACL is certainly a legitimate question, but the ceiling of his move for the Patriots is beyond worth the risk.
