I think its a good idea to have women refs.

Heres my thinking:

The second a female ref screws up a call, theres going to be a friggin mob lobbying the NFL to kick her out.

Therefore, the most attentive, educated, and knowledgable ref on the field, will probably be a chick terrified of making the wrong call.

T'Dah! I like it.

hopefully she can throw a flag without looking at the other refs to back her up. that would put her a notch above the drek doing that very thing on Sunday.

As a scab ref, will she ever work the NFL again once the regs come back?

I don't think so.
I feel it's war now between the original Refs and the replacement ones. Old ones hope new ones fail miserably. New ones hope to get a full opportunity. So far it may seem up to week 5.
No brotherhood here.
Once they are back, if new officials are needed in the future, they won't be from replacement of course.

Likely scenario, but it has opened the door, and when the regulars are back (if ever at this point) they will be pressured to hire a women when there is an opening.

For what it is worth, I know a guy that has worked refereeing soccer games with the woman featured in the article (NFL's first...). He said she does an excellent job.

I personally think its great! If she does her job well then she will be seen as just another official on the field.

Don't remember where I read it, but a player commenting on her first game the other day said it was good for the league to have women refs as they tend to be more honest, and know how to catch a man cheating.

I don't know why there aren't more women refs - other than a "safety" issue, but frankly, I know a lot of women athletes in far better shape than some of the old geezers currently working the sidelines.

Go Cards!!!
