Six periods and still no winner, Dallas and Vancouver will play a fourth overtime.

Five and a half hours later, Vancouver wins the game 5-4. Roberto Luongo ends up with a staggering 72 saves in the game.

god I'm starting to hate the predators - they have by far the worst TV team I've heard all year - glad they decided to give a cheap knee and take cheechoo out

between last years series and the start to this one I have no respect for trotz and his crew

Great goaltending duel going on between Hasek and Kiprusoff right now as game two of Detroit/Calgary is on NBC right now. Detroit leads the series 1-0.

I've decided that I want the Islanders to go all the way. Why? I don't know. Oh, and also, i don't like the Sabres new unis. At all.

The Stars lose to Vancouver again and are down 3 games to one. I would love to Dallas eliminated in the first round.

Watching the Buffalo game, it seems Briere is always in the scoring areas. I really liked him as a Coyote and wish he was still part of the team.

Per NHL.com "Traded to Buffalo by Phoenix with Phoenix's 3rd round choice (Andrej Sekera) in 2004 Entry Draft for Chris Gratton and Buffalo's 4th round choice"

Seems like we got the short end of that trade:confused:

Devils just beat the Lightning in OT. I haven't really been following the NHL playoffs too much since NBA is still going + MLB starting up... I didn't realize these OT's were 20:00 periods. I thought they were 5:00. That means that 4OT game a week or so ago between Dallas and Vancouver was like 140:00 worth of hockey :jawdrop:

It has always been. I went to bed after the 2nd overtime. I remember the Islanders/Capitals playoff game years ago that lasted like until 2:00AM EST.

Well the regular season is 5:00 overtime with shootout if no one scores. I never realized the playoffs was 20:00 with no shootouts. Shows how much I know about hockey. Actually, I probably know more than the average American knows about it, but I don't follow it enough to be a really knowlegdable fan. MLB, NFL, NBA, and even college sports take priority over the NHL for me, so I end up not following it much.

Why do they change it for? Do you know the reason?
In the regular season they play 4 on 4 for 5 minutes followed by a shootout just so the game doesn't end in a tie and its impractical for the NHL to have continuous overtime during the regular season. The reason for having 20 minute 5 on 5 overtimes during the playoffs is to keep the rules the same for overtime as it is for regulation.

Ah I see. Thanks for the explanation. I was glad when they brought the shootout back last year though. I hated when they had ties. Ties are stupid. If they would ever fix the NFL overtime (although there are rarely ties) all major pro sports and major college sports would be tie-free :)
