I think this is the amazing part of this story:

But Martinez’s blast was the talk of the Diamondbacks’ postgame. He’s hitting .306 and has 65 RBIs since the trade, and counting his numbers with the Tigers, he has 45 homers and 104 RBIs. He’s done all that in just 116 games after missing the first 5 1/2 weeks of the season with a foot injury.

Astonishing.

Does anyone have his home/road splits since the trade?

Hopefully he hits better here and will want to re-sign.

We very much WANT to resign him, it's how that is the issue. Small market team with an ACE pitcher contract, a hometown slugger looking for a long term deal after he took a hometown discount, and several arbitration players looking to get paid as well.

I agree it looks almost impossible. It would be nice to see Kendrick step up to the plate and make it happen, but that is probably a long shot at best.

Very nice read.

Maybe Kendrick will see how much value JD will bring to the team. And hopefully he is as hungry for a title as jerrry was

You know Kendrick spearheaded the effort to oust Colangelo for his financial malfeasance with the payroll.

BTW, Martinez Home/Road splits since becoming a DBack:

Home:
110 AB
.373 .448 .891

Road:
112 AB
.241 .295 .634

Thanks!

Looks like a good argument for him to stay. ;)

Hes basically 01' Bonds at home. A .900+ ops on the road is pretty good but that's largely from one game. Hopefully it's scares teams off a bit this winter.

Which takes us to the discussion of star hitter vs. ace pitcher. Which one is more valuable to the D-backs in all 162 games?

I've made my opinion clear. Ahem, the everyday hitter. Whisper whisper.

Great article. Isn't this awesome guys? I mean, I was hopeful going into the season but prepared for disappointment, but I wasn't prepared for this. Even tho we didn't win the division, this season might have been more fun than the 2011 season, and I had season tickets during that time. No shame whatsoever in not catching the Dodgers after their historic run. I mean hell, the Indians won what, 23 games in a row? They still aren't going to catch the Dodgers.

This team is just special in it's own way. You got guys doing historic things on a regular basis, tons of walkoff wins and coming soon:

OCTOBER BASEBALL!

What an awesome surprise this team has been this season! GO DBACKS!!!
