Gyllenhaal knocked this so far out of the park.

He is absolutely repulsive, and creepy and scary and much like the tragedies he was filming, when he was on screen you couldn't look away, even though I kinda wanted to because he was making my skin crawl, which means he did a stellar job.

I keep hearing that Christian Bale is going to win Best Actor for playing Moses, and I think Bill Murray was stellar in St. Vincent, but I think this is the performance of the year.

The movie itself was great. So many good themes touched upon, a commentary on so many aspects of human nature. Russo was great as well.

The ONLY aspect of this I didn't like was the female detective, I didn't like the character at all and the girl playing her wasn't great even with the source material.

All in all a great film, you will leave feeling like you need a shower, but it was still really good.

The one blaring, gaping, insanely idiotic plot hole was this: HOW DOES THE FREAKING HOMELESS GUY WHO HAS NO JOB AND NO MONEY HAVE A CELL PHONE??? Not just a freaking cell phone mind you, but one with a lovely data plan that enables him to use GPS navigation.

It had no impact on the story it's just me being a stickler for details but it was just so ridiculous how could nobody in the studio, the writing, the directing, the editing, even the actors notice this or ask it to be changed? I mean in the "interview" the kid goes on and on about how desperate he is for work and he's homeless and cant stick anywhere, but oh yeah bro I got a phone with GPS ofcourse, I gotta play muh candy crush when I'm sleeping under mah bridges. It was just so stupid, anytime he pulled his phone out I was like haha, there's the freaking homeless guy with the smartphone!"

Awesome film. Gyllenhaal was incredible, reminded me a little of De Niro in Taxi Driver.

During the scene where Jake Gyllenhaal screams at himself in the mirror, Gyllenhaal got so into this improvised scene that the mirror broke, cutting his hand. He was driven to the hospital by the director after a nineteen hour day of working and got forty-six stitches in an four hour long operation, returning to the set six hours after being discharged. This was the reason why Gyllenhaal had his hand behind his back in the scene where he tells the scrapyard owner his motto.

Dan Gilroy wrote a great story. I was glad to see he was nominated for an Oscar. I guess I can't argue against Birdman.

Totally agree. It's funny that you mentioned the part I bolded. He was actually in every scene of the film.

I don't understand why you're so upset in your spoiler though.

I've read estimates that between 45% and 90% of homeless people have cellphones. There are a lot of people that are one bad decision or one bad break from being homeless. Apparently they did extensive research on skid row and homeless shelters, so I suspect they were comfortable with how they portrayed Rick.
