LEXINGTON — There were so many memorable moments during the 46th News Journal All-Star Classic.
The game had it all. A ceremonial trade of buckets to start the game allowing Shelby's Karsen Homan, who was fresh off of shoulder surgery to fix a devastating Grade 5 acromioclavicular shoulder separation, and Cardington's AJ Brehm, who may have made NJ Classic history as the only player to play with a cast on his broken finger, to get in the Classic's scoring record books.
It was just one of the best moments of the night. Let's take a look back at what will go down as a record-breaking game.
There is now a 3-way tie for the most points by a team in NJ Classic history. The 2025 North teams joins North teams from 1996 and 2023 as the only teams to score 150 points in the game's history. The 1996 and 2023 teams won their games 150-120 while the 2025 team won 150-114, which is a new record for the largest margin of victory in the game's history at 36 points, besting the 1996 and 2023 team's 30-point margins.
The North team nailed 6-of-6 free throw attempts during their big win becoming the first team in NJ Classic history to go 100% from the free throw line. The previous record was held by the 2003 South team that made 9-of-10 free throws during a 128-113 loss to the North.
The South team was 4-for-5 for 80% for one of the best free throw shooting games in NJ Classic history.
Highland's Toby Rogers, Crestview's Justice Thompson, Mapleton's Scotty Hickey and Mansfield Senior's Kyevi Roane were all added to the NJ Classic's Top Scorer's list of players who topped the 20-point mark in the game's history.
Rogers scored 36 points for the most in by a Highland player in the game's history while Thompson added 25, Hickey had 24 and Roane collected 21.
Thompson's 25 points is the most by a Crestview player in the game's history topping Evan Hamilton's 18 points in 2021.
Hickey's 24 is the most by a Mapleton player since another Scott, Scott Smith, scored 15 points in the 1987 Classic.
With the addition of those four, there have now been 103 players in the News Journal All-Star Classic's history to score 20 or more points.
There were five players that posted double-digit rebounds in the 46th NJ Classic. Rogers and Roane led the game with 12 rebounds apiece while Ashland's Tyler Sauder, Hillsdale's Brady Krichbaum and Thompson all had 11 rebounds apiece.
They make 76 players who have pulled down 10 or more rebounds in NJ Classic history.
To go along with Rogers, Hickey and Thompson smashing their school's NJ Classic scoring records, Hillsdale's Brady Krichbaum also topped the Falcons' mark. Krichbaum scored 16 points to become the highest scorer for Hillsdale in the NJ Classic besting Dave Bartter's 12 points he scored in 1997.
Lucas' Zac Winters may not have broken the Lucas scoring with his eight points, but he does have bragging rights over his two older brothers. Carson Hauger, who had his All-Star Classic canceled in 2020, scored six points when the 2020 group took the court in 2024 during the alumni game. Oldest brother, Jackson Hauger, scored four points in the 2018 game making Winters the highest scoring brother in the family.
In a little more family history, Madison's Owen Wigton joined his father, Andy, as a rare father-son duo to play in the NJ Classic. Andy scored eight points in the 1997 game while Owen now has bragging rights over his old man by scoring 10 points for the South team in this year's game.
With the addition of the 22 players who showed up for the 46th News Journal All-Star Classic, there are now 1,135 players who have played in the 46 games that make up the NJ Classic's storied history.
