Just had a chat with a Giants sports reporter. The big news today was Buster Posey was going to catch in back-to-back games for the first time. She said the plan was to have him catch 3 times a week, and probably play 1st the other times so he maintains his at-bats. She was ambiguous as to her expectations of the team this year ... more or less same team as last year. Generally counting on Posey to come back and provide most of the offense, which seems like a tall order considering his injury. I think he becomes a problem moving around the bases. I dunno.
The whole division looks strange to me. What's your read?
Was gonna create a thread along these lines last week... I was in Milwaukee on business all week and, though I shouldn't have been, was stunned at the total, complete disregard for the defending NL West Champs... our DBacks! Amazing really. Was listening to one local sports talk show and a national sports talk show on Satelite Radio. Both had very long segments on MLB. Both had numerous "experts" as guests... and NONE of them even mentioned the DBacks... not once! At one point, I was literally fighting the urge to pull off the road and call the station and remind them who won the damn division last year!!!
All so-called "experts" predicted the Giants will win the west, and that their toughest competion will come from the Dodgers! Why?? Because they all believe in Don Mattingly... good grief... Don't get me wrong - I will always be an enormous Donnie-Baseball fan. However, he hasn't shown much at all as a coach and/or manager...
Anyway, just couldn't believe how the DBacks are so universally dismissed... Man I would love nothing more than to see them run away with the division and wrap it up in late August, early September!!!!
