Florida State softball held off a late rally from No. 18 Duke to earn an ACC series win with a 12-11 victory on Saturday.

The No. 9 Seminoles were in run-rule territory with an 11-1 lead before Duke scored 10 runs from the fifth to the seventh inning, almost pulling off an improbable comeback to tie the series at one. The game nearly mirrored FSU's run-rule comeback win on Friday.

With the victory, FSU improves to 5-0 in ACC play.

A Jaysoni Beachum RBI double in the top of the seventh inning gave FSU a crucial insurance run heading into the home half of the inning, which helped the Seminoles hold off a five-run rally from the Blue Devils.

Ashtyn Danley started the game for the Seminoles and reentered in the seventh to close out the game, with 4.2 innings pitched, two strikeouts and one earned run. Julia Apsel threw two innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits, with just one strikeout.

The dramatic conclusion seemed unlikely early in the game, however, as the Seminoles jumped on Duke early with eight runs in the first three innings.

Jahni Kerr doubled in the top of the second to score a run before Hallie Wacaser hit an RBI double of her own. The Blue Devils responded with a run in the home half of the inning.

The Seminoles exploded in the third inning with six runs. Kerr reached on an error that scored a run before Wacaser scored two on a single. Isa Torres hit a bases-clearing three RBI double to cap off the scoring outburst and give FSU an 8-1 lead.

In the fourth, Michaela Edenfield hit a three-run home run to give the Seminoles an 11-1 lead and bring the run rule into play if the lead remained 10 or more after five innings. However, a three-run fifth inning from Duke extended the game and opened the door for the Blue Devils' comeback effort.

The Seminoles surrendered two more runs in the sixth with a two-RBI single. Beachum's double in the seventh put FSU ahead 12-6, which gave FSU an insurance run as Duke scored five in the seventh, falling just short of sending the game to extra innings.

Duke started the scoring with a two-run home run from Amiah Burgess. An error allowed the Blue Devils to add another run before Brooklinn Thomas single drove in another to cut the lead to 12-10.

A bases-loaded two-out fielder's choice ended the game and scored the final Duke run, handing FSU a 12-11 win.
