Katie Dack and Jaysoni Beachum recorded three RBI each to lead Florida State softball to a 12-4 run-rule win over Duke on Friday.
The No. 9 Seminoles (27-5) scored 10 unanswered runs to run-rule the Blue Devils 12-4, with seven runs coming in the fifth inning.
The win moves FSU to 4-0 in ACC play.
Both Dack and Beachum only recorded one hit, but both of hits were meaningful. Beachum hit a double that cleared the loaded bases in the fourth before Dack started the fifth-inning explosion with a two-run home run.
Annabelle Widra started and threw two innings, allowing four runs, three earned, and six hits with two strikeouts. Jazzy Francik replaced her in the third, throwing a scoreless three innings, with a strikeout and only two hits surrendered.
FSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Dack hit a sac fly, quickly followed by a Jahni Kerr RBI single. An error in the home half of the inning allowed the Blue Devils to pull one back before a two-run home run in the second inning from KK Mathis gave Duke a 3-2 lead.
The Blue Devils added a run in the third inning off an RBI triple to make it a 4-2 game, however, the advantage wouldn't last long. Beachum's fourth-inning three RBI double gave FSU a 5-4 lead before the Seminoles exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning.
Two batters after Dack's two-run homer, Hallie Wacaser got in on the act with a two-run home run of her own. A pair of RBI singles from Isa Torres and Kennedy Harp made it an 11-4 game before a wild pitch allowed Harp to score from third base and put the Seminoles into the run-rule advantage.
A 10-pitch 1-2-3 inning from Francik closed out the game and earned the Seminoles a series-opening conference win.
