For most of this century, win or lose, the Cardinals always had an elite player on their roster. First it was "Q", then Larry and then Kurt. I had hoped that PP would continue that procession, but don't think he has, as of yet. In fact, the closest we have to an elite player is the HB, and he's not there yet. But I'm hoping. My question is do we have one, or is there one on the roster, who might, one day, be called elite?

Calais is elite. Veldheer is close. Badger is very close and if PP can snap back from his diabetes, he will certainly be elite as well.
I also think Deone is on his way to becoming an elite player - could happen this year, but most likely next season.

Calais is most certainly elite.
Tyrann is close to taking that next step.
Veldheer is very good player, but not elite status yet.
Peterson? Eh, nah. He still has ways to go.

John Brown is on his way. It may be next season before it is fully realized but defenses are going to have a hard time dealing with him I think.

If Ellington can stay healthy he has real potential.

for sure

and we have a lot of young guys that are primed and ready. If we make a serious run, people will quickly be considered Elite.

Ellington is nowhere near elite. He isn't a gut thats going to take over and dominate a game. Brown isn't either. In fact Veldheer would be the closest thing on offense.

Peterson used diabetes as an excuse. Did it have an affect. I'm sure it did. But lets not forget the guy has never been a shutdown corner week to week. He also got caught admiring himself on the big screen instead of playing through the whistle. He has the potential but does he have the want or work ethic to show up in 16 games?

Tyrann I think has the best shot on Defense. His work ethic has proven he has the want and he has a lot of time to be that player still

If honey badger has a similar or better year than his rookie year, he will be elite and he will take over as the face of the franchise.

If palmer throws up a full year compared to last years stats, he would be considered elite by year end as well.

I'm not sure you have any idea what impact diabetes can have or what can be done to mitigate it once it is identified

Any players that end up on the top 100 voted by their own peers are "elite"

Calais Campbell is my favorite player on the team but he's not elite. I don't even think most people know what elite means.

Name 3 players who you would take over him at his position.

1) JJ Watt
2)....
3)...

Please explain what your definition is then. Elite will mean something different to everyone, but I don't know many scenarios where Campbell isn't called elite.

Elite = MVP caliber player
Star = top 5 at their position in the league

I think you can make the argument that Veldheer is top-5 at his position. Calias certainly is and D-Wash was. Badger has to play more than one season to be considered a great safety but he's on his way.

An overall quality team with depth is more important anyway. The 2-14 Chiefs had something like 5 pro bowlers a few years back.

I'd rather have Calais than Wilkerson but I think Wilkerson is better. But I'm a homer so...

Still short of 3 players you would rather have tham Calais at the position. If you are top 3 in league, you are Elite IMO.

I just have a different definition of elite. That word gets thrown around way too loosely IMO.

I'm thinking top 5-10 players in the league regardless of position. Rodgers, Luck, Watt, Houston, Gronk etc... Guys that are MVP-caliber players.

If it is top 5 in the whole league than the notion that we always had an elite player is false. Warner was MAYBE top 5. Boldin was not top 5 in the league.

the choice or best of anything considered collectively, as of a group or class of persons.

That is the definition of elite. I would say the top 3 at ANY position are the elite considering there are at least 60-100 league wide at any given position.

Well then the Cards never had those players. Boldin certainly wasn't — even in his rookie season, and neither was Fitz even at his best. Fitz has been among the best at his position, but that's a dependent position. Warner was good in 2008, but he had his doors blown off him by Peyton Manning (MVP) and Drew Brees (OPOY).

Which WR's were better than Fitz over that 4-5 year period? Owens was fading out and Calvin wasn't Calvin yet. Plus he backed it up in the postseason which is another factor. You could probably argue Andre Johnson was right there with him.

Fitz I think was the youngest ever to 800 receptions and maybe 2nd youngest to a TD milestone. That's some elite/HOF next level **** right there.

thats his point is fitz was never top 5 in nfl, only at his position and you are saying top 5 nfl wide only.
