If you pay attention to mock drafts, you will notice a recent trend for the Arizona Cardinals. North Dakota State offensive lineman Grey Zabel has been the new hot name projected to them in the first round. Zabel has had a great predraft process. He played multiple positions very well in college, dominated at the Senior Bowl and tested well at the combine. His perceived worth is on the rise.

A new three-round mock draft from Pro Football Network has the Cardinals going with Zabel in the first round.

Let's see what players the Cardinals land in these projections.

Arizona Cardinals' selections in 3-round mock draft

  • Round 1: North Dakota State OL Grey Zabel
  • Round 2: Mississippi WR Trey Harris
  • Round 3: UCLA LB Carson Schweisinger

Analysis

As noted in another article, drafting Zabel in the first round would stray from what general manager Monti Ossenfort has done in two drafts. With 21 draft picks, he has not selected an FCS player. He has only taken Big Ten and SEC players in five selections in the first two rounds. He has only selected premium positions in the first two rounds.

Zabel probably won't be a first-round pick for the Cardinals.

Harris is a receiver with size at 6-foot-2. He played in only eight games last season for Ole Miss and still had 1,030 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 16.1 yards per catch over his college career and 17.7 over two seasons for the Rebels. This wouldn't be a surprise selection, although no defensive player in the first two rounds might be a surprise.

Schweisinger was super productive last season, leading the nation with 90 solo tackles. He had 136 total tackles, four sacks and two interceptions. He is 6-foot-2 and 242 pounds and, while he did not run at the combine, he posted a 39.5-inch vertical leap, demonstrating explosiveness.
