AZ Cardinals Mortgage Guy
Parting with 2 starting pitchers with not much but cash savings in return...this smells like a means to an end. Sounds to me like we positioning ourselves to go after an ace.

I'd love to get Tanaka.
I'd love to get Tanaka.
He's absolutely been unhittable in Japan and has ace potential. Granted, Japan is akin to AAAA ball and especially with pitchers, its a gamble.
Me personally, I'd be in favor of getting Tanaka and Shark (now that I saw what Detroit got for Fister, I'm convinced Arizona can get Jeff without giving up Bradley, Corbin, Shipley and Skaggs.) I think the three (Corbin, Shark and Tanaka) has potential.
I've read there are a lot of young SP's available.
Jacob Turner
Homer Bailey
Brett Anderson
Yovani Gallardo
David Price we know is out there as well as Jeff Samardjia.
PLEASE Towers do not get fleeced.
If we are looking for a bat Trumbo would be nice because like Prado he could play OF & back up Goldy at 1B along with bringing some power to the lineup.

I guess Skaggs is not viewed as a centerpiece, that is why OAK wanted more for Cepedes.
I think Skaggs would be a solid part of ARZ's rotation. Teams are going to try and fleece ARZ in trades. ARZ just needs to back away and not go into panick mode. I think Bradley is as good as any SP they hope to add and Skaggs even if he is at the back of the rotation would be better than Cahill or McCarthy, at least he would be cheaper.
Skaggs still has a TON to prove. His time in the bigs over the past two seasons - which has been limited of course - can only be categorized as horrendous.
Yea - he would be cheaper than Cahill and McCarthy. However, in terms of production, he could very easily be worse. At present, his numbers are worse.
And as I noted in another thread, Bradley has yet to even pitch at the AAA level. It is WAY too premature to place him in the position you seem to continue to toss him into. He's 21. Has looked dominate up to this point. But hasn't pitched an inning beyond AA. Give the kid a chance man...
I think Cahill & McCarthy are too inconsistent and injury prone, whereas Skaggs hasn't gotten a real chance too prove himself at the big league level. The fact that Towers isn't going to bring him up for good because he doesn't have confidence in him is very alarming and more than likely he has already pitched his last game as a Diamondback.
Bradley has been in the minors for 3 years, he IS 21 but he is considered one of the best SP in all the minors. At some point he should be up for good THIS YEAR. I wish ARZ could wait longer for him but I just don't think they are going to get an "Ace" this offseason. Price is the best option out there but ARZ would absolutely have to give up Bradley and spend $20M+ to keep him, they cannot do that. Unless ARZ is willing to be a mediocre team and wait until next year to make a move, they are really limited in terms of options that will help them this year, unless Kendrick sells to someone with big $$$.
I think the teams that get young pitching payoff are the ones that can't afford to do anything but that. They don't trade them away because they can't afford what they get in return, and they put a lot of effort into developing them.
Otherwise, bringing those pitchers along is an art, and it's clear pitchers who flail in some organizations can flourish in a different environment. I'm not convinced the D-Backs aren't a flailing pitcher organization, but I don't have anything to back me up other than perception.
