Are Miley and Corbin "flailing" in your opinion? Did Delgado "flail" last season?
I think you first point above is interesting... However, teams that fit that description do eventually - always - lose that young pitching via trade or free agency... Look at David Price this year. There are a plethora of other examples for teams like the Dbacks, Rays, A's, etc...
The goal is to try to compile a winning team during that duration of time when you have in our possession, a David Price type talent...
