I realize I am a newbie to realgm, but looking at ho small our salaries are, even Marion's is not bad compared to Shaq, Marion is almost 1/3 of Shaq's! We have no way to sign and trade for Shaq, unless we resign JJ, and whoever else we were going to trade for big contracts. No way LA takes White or Eisley. Basically we had a lot of dead salaries this last year, and we sure could have used Stephon Marbury's contract right about now! :D We have squat for salaries in a trade! So, unless you guys can show me how we can trade for Shaq and still have 12 men on our roster, I think Shaq is out as a viable option for us!

Shaq 29.5 next season
Marion 10.06 next season

First off, Shaq was never a viable option ;)

Also, dont forget we are under the cap next season. So in theory we can absorb part of Oneal's deal. If we move to about 15 million under the cap (if the white deal goes through) then we only have to send 15 million back to LA.

Look at our salaries. Marion is going to earn about $10. Eisley is what, around 5-6? All our other guys have really cheap salaries. We would heve to trade almost the whole team to get Shaq! Or am I reading that wrong?

We would need to trade 3-4 people after moving White.

Marion is about 11.3 next season. JJ is at 2.4. Voskuhl at 1.7......

That adds up to be about 15.4 million.

Make sure you look at salaries for the 2004-2005 season.

The trade checker will decline it because at this point the suns do not have that much cap space. Once they update it after the expansion draft, and figure in the new cap number, something similar to that should be accepted.

But we have to be within 15% of Shaq's salary and that is supposed to be roughly 29.5 million dollars! We are nowhere NEAR that! Like you said he's not a viable option, but I see other threads that say we have the choice between, TMac, Kobe, and Shaq. I just wanted to try and get consensus that Shaq for all practicale matters, is off the board. That narrows the discussion to two players. Kobe and TMac. That would help the discussion of possible scenarios if we eliminate all the ones that don't fit. :) Right?

once we pawn off jahidi, the combined salary of our whole TEAM will be 28M, while shaq by himself will make that much

Yuma, have a beer. You're old enough, right?

The "same salary" rule applies only to teams over the cap. If the Suns are under the cap, they can take on all the extra salary they want in a trade, as long as the acquisition doesn't put them over.

So if the cap is roughly $46 million (we don't know yet) and O'Neal is to make $29 million, the Suns would have to give up enough players so that the remaining Suns total $17 million.

It's not going to happen, but it would be possible.

I'm forty! I can't have beer for medical reasons, but tequila, brandy and rum are my favorites! Hey, I was just thinking. From a marketing standpoint, who would draw more butts into the seats. Kobe, probably, but he has that bad image association, too. TMac is just not a person the know nothing fan knows about. People like our wives, moms, kids, etc. However, you say the Suns have Shaq, and EVERYONE knows Shaq! I think from a money standpoint, if the Suns get Shaq, AWA is SOLD OUT! That may be our best marketing move. A fornt line with Shaq and Amare? Watch out! Sportsceneter each night! That WILL get the casual fan into the seats! ;)

The goal is not excitement, it's winning the championship. I don't feel the Suns have enough depth to make a viable trade offer and still be able to field a competative team.

Part of it seems cool to get Shaq and another part gives me a headache.

I mean on a basic need level we need a starter calibar Center...obviously Shaq fills that need...and then some.

Suns have tradable assets..Most obvious is Marion. With Shawns sizable contract and sizable statline he'd be first to go. I think White would be a key piece...he has only one year to go on his contract and he is a center...center in center out on both sides. If White goes to the Bobcats then Eisley would be a probable trade. I mean there is a lot of fat on Shaqs contract so its only fair they take some money back...we had to with the Penny trade taking Eisley back. Heck maybe they take White AND Eisley...but then they would probably want JJ too. With Marion, White, Eisley, and Barbosa I think thats about 25 mill...trade that for Shaq and a token filler player. We still would have our #7 pick to address our SF position (plus we have Zarko at SF)....bring over Vujanic to shore up the pg spot which was vacated by Barbosa.

Maybe (probably) the Lakers wouldnt want to do it but it seems possible...They get 5-7 mill cap relief right away (with added Laker player)...another 5 mill after White goes off the books....and 5 mill again the year after with Eisley going. They have Marion and Barbosa as needed youth to inject in the franchise. I guess they could do better but Shaq has only 2 years left on his contract...he's 32...and has a HUGE contract which is hard for many teams to swallow. Is not like Shaq is total gravy.

Ok, one more trade proposal here.

Shaq, George, Rush, Payton (ca. 40 mil) for

Marion, Zarko, Jake, JJ, #7, Vujanic, Eisley (ca. 24 mil). :D
