That was Travis Johnson's assertion that Trent Green was intentionally trying to injure him. That is how he justified his idiotic actions on the field and off. People are arguing that what Johnson did was justified by the dirty play of Trent Green (and I'll still argue it was a feeble attempt at best to even block him let alone try to take him out). I for one find that absolutely hilarious. Also I thought his use of the F bomb in his press conference spoke volumes about his character. He is a classic hothead who cannot control himself.

"Except Wilfork was BLOCKED into Losman. I think people are conditioned to think any low hit on a QB is dirty and any low hit on a DL is fair game."

Wilfork led with an forearm to the knee and was not blocked into him. Hence his fine from the NFL. You won't see Green getting fined. And trust me dirty play is dirty play as far as I am concerned.

Someone blocked his arm into an elbow to drive into Losman's knee? Maybe the block started the play, but he finished it.

And then Vrabel does this:
POSTED 9:37 a.m. EDT; UPDATED 10:39 a.m. EDT, October 9, 2007

STEINBACH CALLS VRABEL 'CLASSLESS' by Michael David Smith

Browns guard Eric Steinbach is furious with Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel for a hit Vrabel delivered late in Sunday's game after the Browns spiked the ball to stop the clock.

Although it was garbage time with the Patriots up 34-17, both the Browns and Patriots had their starters on the field, and the Browns were running a hurry-up offense when quarterback Derek Anderson spiked the ball with 11 seconds left. After the spike, Vrabel hit Browns left tackle Joe Thomas, knocking him back, and then knocked Anderson down with a hit to the back of Anderson's leg. For some reason, no flags were thrown, and the Browns were not pleased.

"Classless. You can quote me on that,'' Steinbach said, as reported by Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal. ''To dive for a guy's knees like that, to almost take out the quarterback when the game is already over with?''

Whether the game was already over with or not is irrelevant -- the Browns had their first-team offense on the field trying their hardest to score, so there's nothing wrong with the Patriots having their first-team defense on the field trying to keep them from scoring. But it's extremely strange that the officials didn't throw any flags, either on Vrabel or on Steinbach or Browns center Hank Fraley, both of whom hit Vrabel in retaliation. Steinbach said he hopes the league takes action.

''You've got to get fined for that,'' Steinbach said, per the Beacon Journal. ''Maybe he doesn't care about a $5,000 fine, but that's $5,000. I wouldn't want that reputation.''

Steinbach also expressed anger that the Patriots are often referred to as the "model franchise."

"Everyone looks up to them in the NFL like they're the team that does everything right,'' Steinbach said. ''How are you going to have a player like that go and do that at the end of the game? That just doesn't show professionalism. I don't care if the game is won or lost, you don't do a move like that.''

A Patriots Pattern?

Watch this and tell me he wasn't blocked, he was not only blocked he was essentially tackled by #67 Melvin Fowler. He fell forward. AS he was falling he twisted his body and extended his arm. Many think he extended it to take out Losman, personally I think he extended it to try and break his fall.

If you watch that clip it's in slow motion and it's crystal clear that Fowler caused Wilfork to go down like that. What's impossible to know is did he then try to hit Losman with his arm, or was he trying to break his own fall.

I don't particularly care that Wilfork got fined it's just a guess whether it was intentional or not. In last night's game there's a play where Roy Williams horse collars Lynch, and then Newman hits him helmet to helmet. They called a 5 yard facemask, which never actually happened. I'm betting they fine Williams for the horsecollar(point of emphasis) and don't fine Newman for the helmet to helmet, which was out of bounds too. My bet is simple, Williams has a reputation the horse collar rule is because of him, Newman has no reputation so he won't get fined.

I agree Green won't get fined, it was a legal hit, but it was dangerous. I don't think he tried to hurt Johnson but I do think he chose to protect himself at the risk of possibly injuring Johnson. I don't think that's entirely innocent.

Look at the slow mo, Fowler basically grabbed him around the waist and tackled him. he wasn't diving he was falling into Losman.

I watched it, and I guess I just see it differently than you. It doesn't matter anymore, the damage is done.

Agree to disagree.

I do have to admit Losman is one of my least favorite NFL players, I don't wish injury on anybody mind you, but Losman is and always has been a primadonna so maybe if that hit was on someone else I'd see more intent from Wilfork. Impossible to say.
