I was going to call this the Corey Myers watch, but there are others that will fit the same general class, so... ;)

Never was taken with Corey Myers until this past AZ Fall League, and he blew my ears back, as my brother likes to say. He was defensively very solid, smart in play and running, and hit up a storm with good plate discipline. Can't ask for a whole lot more.

I had to leave the Brewers game early today (it was REALLY slow) and when I got home, said to my dogs, "Right about now, Corey Myers is hitting a Grand Slam, just you watch."

LOL!!! That he did!!

Hardly an obsession - Now, Conor Jackson, Carlos Quentin - THOSE are obsessions. Get your terminology straight! LOL

I just became intrigued this past fall with his caliber of play - it startled me and made me rethink my previous low opinion of him. Frankly, he was a hell of a lot better and more polished than most of the young guys we experimented with in 2003-2004 and I wondered what had made him wake up. He went from 'first round pick who totally flopped' to 'potentially very solid bench material.'

Plus, he always has some family at games, and they are so excited for him and so intensely hopeful, you almost have to root, too.

My guess would be that, They don't want to waste a roster spot on somebody who COULD be a bench player

In the first round of cuts, the Diamondbacks optioned Justin Wechsler, Dustin Nippert, Enrique Gonzales, Reggie Abercrombie, and Josh Kroeger. The club also reassigned Phil Stockman, Casey Daigle, Corey Myers, Alan Zinter, Juan Brito, and Doug DeVore, and gave Donovan Osborne his release.

No surprises here. Most are still prospects and a few career AAAA types.
Hmmm - I'm confused - 'optioned' - does an invite to ST count as an option? So does that mean guys like Conor and Carlos will have used an option? Or does it only apply to guys on the 40 man already, which all the ones mentioned here are on?

I didn't realize Brandon Medders' excellent inning yesterday was his FIRST live outing in almost a year, after labrum surgery and rehab - dang! no rust on that arm!

Im pretty sure that only those on the 40 man need to be optioned. Jackson and Quinten will be "reassigned" and thus this will not use up one of their options. At least I think thats how it works.
