Norv Turner is a great OC but a horrible head coach. He has proven this time and time again and I never understood why people thought that him taking over in San Diego was a great move. Just wondering what people on this board think of Turner the head coach. Wonder what LT thinks right now?

i've said it before, i'll say it again, firing Marty wasn't such a horrible thing... replacing him with Norv Turner was. That was just the height of stupidity.

if they do not respond, look for Norv to lose job #3 at the end of the season.

We as Cardinal fans have a pretty good idea what a new coach can do, both good and bad.
When they hired him it seemed to be out of desperation.

Wasn't Turners name mention here at some point to take over for Green?

AJ Smith has done a great job with the drafts but firing Marty was idiotic. There were no suitable replacements because they waited so long and all their coordinators got jobs elsewhere. Norv has to be horrific to have a team as great as the Chargers play as poorly as they are.

I think Turner was mentioned years before Green ever got here. He basically laughed in the Cardinals face and went elsewhere. I have to admit, I really admire Whiz and Grimm for having the courage to come to Arizona.

or its the fact that Cottrell has no idea what he's doing on defense

he's not playing to the strengths of that D designed by Phillips which was a blitzing, attacking, pressure from all over type D

I knew they would be screwed. Schottenheimer is a GREAT COACH IMO. Everywhere he has went has struggled after he left. Most of his playoff struggles were entirely out of his control. Losing Wade Phillips and Cam Cameron didn't help either.

The guy I really feel for here is LT. You can just see the disgust and disappointment all over his face when he talked after the game.

great point. he's playing Larry Marmie defense. they were stupid to wait so long to get a coach. all of the oc and dc candidates were pretty much gone by that time as well.

you're right, when they would attack constantly and swarm, they were extremely effective.

Firing a 14-2 head coach is ********. A.J. Smith deserves all of the blame for having an ego trip. Could you imagine the Cardinals firing a 14-2 head coach. Everybody always points to Schottenheimer's lack of playoff success, but he found ways to excel with QB's like Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac, and Rich Gannon.

I'm from KC, you can hear long time KC fans moan about Marty to this day.

Although the Chiefs have done jack in the playoffs since and now rarely make it.

Marty has some playoff force field around him, however myself I like the law of averages eventually the guy breaks through.

I'd hire him in a second, I wouldn't even flinch unless I had some coaching legends to choose from besides him.

i thought the Norv hiring was horrible as well. I don't know if i remember right but wasn't the reason Marty was let go because they could they didn't want him to be a lame duck coach this year? They couldn't/ wouldn't work out a long term extension or something. Still it was a horrible hire. It only took Norv 3 games to equal Marty's total for last year.

What made it worse (I was in SD during the whole thing) was that they fired Marty AFTER most of the good coaches were taken by other teams. It wasn't that SD had the opportunity to compete with other teams for HC's; they were so late in firing Marty, all they could fight over was the HC leftovers.

Some radio jock, Cowherd I think, was pointing out that same thing on his show yesterday.

Shotty never had the premier QB on his teams; and you always hear people say how it's the QB's that make the difference come playoff time!

Stunning, isn't it? And 1 of those losses last year was from Martyball (the loss to the Ravens). To his credit he opened up the playbook afterwards.

The playoff loss wasn't really his fault. They should have won, but for that guy who INT brady on 4th down (instead of batting it away), and then fumbling it right back.

They didn't look sharp but that was rivers having playoff jitters. Maybe he should have ran LT more but Marty just has bad luck in the playoffs.

They also appear to have internal issues. LT was seen yelling at Rivers on the sideline twice during the last game. on the 2nd one you can clearly read Rivers lips saying "whatever" when LT yells something at him and they both walk away.

LT is the heart and sould of that team, it's probably not a huge deal these sort of things happen alot, but when it's public like that you have to wonder if he's going to like the young QB saying "whatever" when he's trying to tell him something?

Rivers really did a marvelous job last year taking over, but so far this year hasn't played well, don't want to do anything to lose the respect of his teammates.

Since we've never even sniffed 14-2, how about asking it this way: Could you imagine the Cardinals firing a coach whose four most recent seasons had finished a combined 38-18 with two division wins included?

No, of course not. They just changed the locks and forgot to give Don the keys.

this was ********. and it's not like the chargers have always been great. you'd think a team that close to their first SB ring(from a talent aspect) would have found a way to settle their problems. they made a mistake by letting their OC and DC walk and then firing marty. that was stupidity. I'm just glad that they fired after phillups left. also that jerry jones was smart enough not to hire turner.

SD couldn't have stopped Phillips or Cameron from leaving to take a head coaching position.

Should the RB be telling the QB how to do his job? If I was the QB and another position player was in my face I would probably do the same thing.

BTW, LT should be more worried about his own performance. He hasn't done squat so far this year.
