Bob Kemp just reported on KDUS that a Tampa Bay article this morning says the Bucs are very much in the running for LJ Shelton, calling them a "finalist".

I think we would get their 2nd round pick, which is pretty high.

With that pick we could get a CB, QB and RB all in the first and second rounds.

The only way I would trade LJ to the Bucs instead of getting Henry is if the Bucs were offering their #1 pick or their #2 and a starter.

The increased interest in LJ only helps our efforts to get a great deal for him...

The only way I'd take a Bucs deal over a Bills deal is if Tampa Bay offered Griese and a #2.

...And they'd be crazy to do that.

Why would they be crazy to do that? It's been reported that they're offering their #2. It's also been reported that they are going to outright release greise, so if he's the thing that tips the scales why not include him? Heck, we should include S. King in the deal.

This how to negotiate. Create fear in Buffalo’s mind about out intentions. We just might get an additional first day pick after all.:)

Exactly...

BTW, we don't want to trade for Griese. He is due a 6m bonus on March 2nd and is due 2m in 2005 and 2m in 2006. That is 10m for 2 years, (6m guaranteed), a bit much IMO.

I would guess he could be had for 3 years/10-12m with alot less guaranteed...maybe 5m?

Why not trade LJ to Tampa for Pittman, Rice, Dexter Jackson and any other former Cardinals they still have on the roster....

I'll take TB's 2nd round and their 4th round pick for Shelton and giggle all the way to draft day.

I looked for the article on tampa tribune Bob was talking about and this is the only thing they had today.

The Bucs have 11 draft picks to dangle at teams interested in moving players that way, but they might have lost out on a couple potential targets Wednesday, when the Cardinals reportedly agreed to a deal to send left tackle L.J. Shelton to the Bills for running back Travis Henry.

I have no idea what Bob was talking about, I think he took to much cough syrup or something.

So it's Travis Henry for LJ Shelton. Thanks for checking out the Tampa report.

Damn I love this board. Put up a rumor one minute and get it checked out within the hour.

Maybe the Cards planted the story. Wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.

well that interview with Denny yesterday.. he did seem to push the idea of getting picks in a trade.

Sounds like they were trying to leverage the deal and it must have worked. Six more days and we'll know.

Would they not have to sign Griese to trade him? Shelton for Griese in a NY minute. You bet.

Griese is signed. He's expected to be cut if the Bucs can't restructure his deal due to a $6 million roster bonus.

and just say No to that deal (unless they threw in a first day pick)

I want more than just Henry..it seems to be like running backs always seem to be a dime a dozen and many of the backs who do get traded end up not doing as well. I would like at least Henry and a third and fourth (hopefully third) and a second and third or a good player from the Bucs.
