Sources say there are two reasons the Cardinals won't cut Washington yet: His cap acceleration would be approximately $7.5 million, and they would not be entitled to recover some of the aforementioned $10 million option bonus -- none of which has been paid at this point. So rather than attempt to force Washington to repay the money, the Cardinals are prepared to argue they shouldn't have to pay him in the first place.
This is interesting. It appears they haven't paid him any money so far.

Sure sounds like he's played his last game in a Card uniform.

It's a crazy situation, I don't think the Cards are mad that he smoked pot, they're well aware that they have others on their team that do as does the whole league. They're upset that D Wash took that bonus and then didn't hold up his end of the deal by passing tests.

If Jurecki is right and he actually missed 3 tests I can see why the Cards would be furious, once by mistake ok, 3 times you're clearly doing something stupid.

Infuriating to say the least. EVery year someone tests positive at the combine people freak out about how harmless pot is and I always say the same thing, it's not the pot they're worried about it's the consequences of testing positive for it after you draft them and give them a big contract and depend on them being in your lineup. D Wash is an example of what I'm always talking about, in the end his inability to handle his business is harming the franchise.

Once this contractual matter is worked out he will no longer be an Arizona Cardinal.

I was adamant in my "CUT HIM NOW" rants. But, I concede to those with more calm, rational responses that it would be too costly at the present time.

Hopefully, once the contract bonus issue is resolved the Cards can make a prudent decision at that time.

I still hope he NEVER suits up in a Cardinal uniform again.

Nope it doesn't make you a bad person, it makes you a bad risk as an NFL player to give a big contract to.

I would bet as much as half the NFL smokes pot, the problem is D Wash was already in the testing program it was a calculated risk to give him a big bonus and he really let the team down. This is why I always worry about kids who test positive at the combine. If you can't stay clean long enough to pass a test you KNOW is coming, how are you going to survive in the NFL?

But it is a bad subject we lost one of our better players, probably forever. I don't think he ever plays again for the Cards.

Unless you're in Colorado or Washington you're breaking the law. Knowingly breaking the law makes you a common criminal. There are no good common criminals. Couple that with the fact that it is against league rules and you do it anyway means you're a moron to boot.

Are the rule of your country, where u can go to jail if u smoke weed or if u walk in the street with a bottle of whiskey in your hand, but in the same time u can posses many weapons that i have never seen even in a movie.

The sport should condemn more the people using certain unnatural substances to increase performances.
There is nothing worse then deceive.
Look at amstrong.
With weed u dont deceive no one

Jason La Confora's article makes a lot of sense.

Agreed, but ....

"I fully realize that nothing of significance changes in this league without a fight between the league and its union, but the fact that lighting up a joint is dealt with in a draconian fashion, while domestic abuse punishment is often meted out in a far-less severe manner, is just one of many incongruous corollaries to the NFL's weed policy."

Yeah, people have only stated this for the last 20 years world wide on every level of society. Just sayin' If this is opening eyes, then fantastic.

And if La Confora is taken aback by such lunacy, I hope he doesn't read the daily paper, cause in our society it is so much worse. Much, much worse. If the above statement makes your angry then don't look up affluenza of the rich....cause your head may explode.

:D

But then again, I have always had issue with the whole good, bad thing.

I mean if the people that make the laws are bad people and the laws are bad, then following them makes you bad right ?

But, if you follow a bad law, and do a bad thing, you are being good even though you are doing bad ?

To me it's more the hypocrisy. We have a bunch of ex players talking about being given all sorts of pain killers and who knows what else for their entire careers so they can play, but pot gets you suspended for a year.

What is the bigger long term risk to a players health, the pain killer or the pot? We all know the answer is not the pot.

So the NFL isn't doing this for the best interests of the players.
