There are many who are disappointed with tonight's game and I just don't agree. The 49ers ALWAYS play the Cardinals close, regardless of coach, QB, location, etc.

The team got big stops and overcame all of the obstacles that have held them back in the past. They kept fighting and kept scoring and eventually took the lead. Anytime you think a game is going to be a blowout it isn't so I wasn't surprised by the closeness of the game.

In the end though, the offense came through, the defense came through and all Cardinals fans have to worry about now is the team getting complacent with a 4 game lead in the division!

Whisenhunt always plays tight in these games to try and keep the team from making a big mistake and, ultimately, luckily perhaps, it worked both times vs. SF.

Kurt Warner came up huge, Boldin was a beast, Fitzgerald caught everything, Breaston is the new x-factor and the team won with it's strength. No shame in this win at all.

Totally true of course...

But could someone tell me why??? Why do the Cardinals struggle to bear the pathetic Niners? Why do the Niners play their best games twice each year against the Cardinals, and pretty much stink up the field the rest of the time?

Why?

It is a division matchup. That just happens. Watch the NFC East, if you can, or the NFC Norris, games can be close not matter the records.

Moklerman, your boy was money tonight! No picks, no fumbles, and with no running game..

Huzzah!

The magic of the NFL. Division games often turn into close games when on paper they shouldn't be close. I also think the NFL hates blowouts on MNF. Haven't all the games been close on MNF this year? Methinks a little NBA officiating may be going on but I love a conspiracy theory.

Also, look at the Rams the first couple of weeks under Haslett. A fiery ex-player can get guys pumped up for a week or two and I think Singletary did just that. Not to mention that their isn't much game tape on Hill. Add to all of that the national audience. SF had nothing at all to lose and I think the Cardinals were playing pretty tight.

Even with all of that, they still put up 30 and won the game. Overcoming the stigma, pressure, deficit on the scoreboard, mental mistakes and questionable officiating has me very pleased with this win.

I think too many people are confusing expectations of a big win with the obstacles the Cardinals overcame and the win that they won.

Honestly, I knew in my gut that this was going to be tough game...

NOT ONLY for the team but for US, too. We were sky-high; We're going to win by 40 pts.; ESPN picked us across the board, etc. We were totally set-up to be emotionally devasted by a loss. BUT, tonight, somehow, someway we came out on top. ...And that's ALL that matters right now. Truth is we're a GOOD team! BUT we have our "flaws" just like most every other team. I expect us to win more than we lose now but also realize that we're a work-in-progress.

No doubt. Really staked his claim for a 3rd MVP which I thought was a pipe dream. My only criticism of his night was in the postgame when he started praising Jesus. The guy's a true class act and devoutly religious so I guess I can't blame him but I certainly prefer it when he's got that all toned down. God doesn't care if he or the Cardinals win or lose. Praise the defense, coaches, players or team Kurt. Keep God private.

True, but God did keep him safe from the big uglies trying to hit him. :)

If the Bengals can take the Giants to OT, then I have no problem with winning a close one to a bad team. A win is a win. This is a game this team would have lost any of the last 10 years. Enjoy the results and let the coaches and players worry about the shortcomings.

We are getting to the point where an ugly win is still a win. Past the point, I freaking hope, of seeing a bad team take the field two games in a row. The niners played inspired today, but we had chances to step on their throat. Cards of old would have found a way to lose this. Interesting that 2 players on D that we consider our core, 24 & 58, had idiotic penalties that either took points off or extended drives late. I hope its growing pangs. We won. We won. We F***ing won. Love it, savor it. The team needs to get to work. Whis needs to get on them for idiocy, clancy needs to learn to coach a defense for an entire game, and I need another beer. Bring on the Seahawks.

I don't think there were as many bad defensive penalties as it seemed. The Dansby play sure looked like he was going for the ball. He didn't spear the guy or slam the player on the ground at all. New England wouldn't have been called on that play. The Wilson offsides could have gone either way. I think if he hadn't leaned just that little bit they would have let his timing on the rush go.

On offense, the P.I. on Boldin was total crapola. It only takes one big play to make the difference between winning and losing and the Cardinals overcame at least 3. I think this was a great effort, not ugly.

I am as thrilled as you guys with a win that I thought would be crapped away, but I am a bit concerned that we couldn't run the ball for crap tonight.

BAd teams find a way to lose. Good teams find a way to win.

WE SHOULD ALL HAVE THIS DOWN PAT!

We have been a bad team for a long, long time. Game after game we would come to this forum to bitch and moan about 1 play here or 1 play there costing us the game. A dropped pass. A bad penalty. A tipped int. A fumble. A blocked kick. A kickoff returned for a touchdown!

Good teams find a way to overcome those kind of mistakes. Bad teams take an extra 20 seconds to spike the ball. Bad teams fail to fall on a fumble in the endzone.

We can criticize more than a few players after this win sinks in.....tomorrow. Today I'm going to bask in the glory of a 6-3 record with a 4game lead.

This team needed a game like tonight. It was gut check time and we gutted one out.

I have come to 1 conclusion. This team is unbelievably resilient.

That's another good point. Who knows how a goal line stand to win the game will galvanize the defense?

Overall, the defense was geared toward stopping Gore and forcing Hill to win the game. Under 100 yards for Gore(just barely, but still...) and 2 picks(plus how many that didn't?) and a fumble against Hill. It was nerve racking but let's not forget that's a season sweep against SF.

Does it really matter if it was 2 wins by 2 points or 50 points? I think these gut checks will serve the team much more than blowouts. Not panicking when down early and continually coming back to take the lead makes me think this team could move onto bigger things.

I am not looking for a debate here, nor to get this tossed to P&R...

But Warner didn't relate God to the Cardnials in any manner. He simply stated that he appreciates the opportunities the God continues to give him; i.e.- to continue to play a game that he, Warner, loves.

Kurt Warner lives his faith, why should anyone expect him to hide it, or be too timid about it to mention it...

at this point, I'm starting to believe Warner IS Jesus. He can say whatever the hell he wants if he keeps playing like the MVP of the league.

I can't say enough how shocked and happy I have been that Kurt has proven me so completely wrong about his ability to not only come back from the proverbial dead, but to look and play like the best QB in the game this year.

Far as I'm concerned, if you complete 75% of your passes for 300 yards, 3 TDs and no turnovers, you get to praise anybody you like.

In all seriousness, it wasn't "Jesus won us this football game" like you hear sometimes. Like CardLogic said, it was about appreciating his opportunities, and I don't mind him talking about something that is that important to him.

Hey, he can break into Amazing Grace if he keeps putting up numbers like he did last night. That was an incredible performance, with NO turnovers.

For all Shaun Hill did, he still committed several, even a couple negated by penalties. Maybe it wasn't all J.T. O'Sullivan?!?

Let's all keep in mind that the Niners had an extra week to prepare for this game. They went back to the opener & realized that we controlled the line of scrimmage & ran very, very well. Singletary knew that they had to stop the run 1st to have any chance of competing. Didn't the 49ers come into the season with what appeared to be a stout D. They showed last night that they are potentially a much better team than we thought. The Cardinals played just well enough to win, but we DID win. Football is such an emotional game & the Niners played emotional football, just like the Rams did right after Haslett took over. If the 49ers lose another game or 2, watch them lose that intensity.

Titans have the best run game in football and got shut down worse than we did. like us, they still won. Sometimes, other teams are able to completely take something away from the opponent's arsenal. that happened last night.
