Notre Dame men’s basketball star Austin Carr’s legend still lives on

The legend of former Notre Dame men’s basketball star Austin Carr is still alive, as this graphic shared on social media by FOX Sports shows.

Prior to getting selected with the No. 1 overall pick of the 1971 NBA draft, Carr light up the NCAA Tournament over multiple seasons. He still holds four of the top individual scoring performances in the tourney, with his high of 61 still topping the charts.

The AP Player of the Year, Naismith College Player of the Year, and consensus first-team All-American in 1971, is one of the Irish’s all-time great basketball players. His accolades show that, and while he didn’t have as much success in the NBA as he did in South Bend, he still was named as an All-Star in 1974 and an All-Rookie First team member in 1972.

The legend of Carr will continue to live on, as it will be extremely hard for anyone to beat his 61 points against Ohio in the NCAA Tournament in 1970.
