I think Byrnes and company were probably going to fire sale the free agents and veterans thinking they were out of the race as of last week

This run not only makes them keep those players, they need to make a move to bring in another bat and another starter.

Nah. Stick with what you got, and if you make it then great, if not it is no big deal since this team wasn't supposed to contend anyway (and in my opinion is not a contender as of now).

Trading any young players for a rent-a-player type would be a big mistake.

They need to make some type of move to improve, but I don't like rent-a-players either. Is there anyone on the trading block with a longer contract that we could use?

I think they could pick up a player to contribute beyond this season. Chad Tracy is a huge hole at 3rd. Maybe Mark Texiera :D

Hey I'd love Teixera. I don't know how we'd fare against the AL, but I wouldn't be too worried about any NL team if we do. The problem is we probably wouldn't be able to resign him. :( I just hope they do SOMETHING to maybe help us stay out of another long losing streak.

Make a trade involving either Quentin or Carlos Gonzales and Zach Greinke from KC, and call up Upton

Zach Greinke has something wrong with his mind...we dont want him. he left the royals last year to go mow lawns. any player that would leave the majors to go be a gardner, even leaving the Royals. is crazy. true story.

I agree w/ Syracuse about Greinke, he's all messed up in the head. However, if you are playing a baseball video game, go with him, his curveball is sick and mentally instability doesn't factor into it.

any takers for Dye in RF? Although he is a rent a player, it wouldnt take much get him here.
I would definitely take him over Quentin for the year. What do you think it would take to get him though?

Olney just said we are in the Texiera sweepstakes. What do you guys think about that?

Love it, and if we can resign him I'd be ecstatic. I doubt it, but maybe they'll do it, who knows?

Not happening. It would take Max Scherzer just to get Texas to listen (from what they have been demanding from other teams) and even worse is that Scott Boras has Teixeira thinking he will get a 25 mil per year contract when he reaches free agency :bang:

How about trading Livan to either the White Sox or Yankees for either Dye or Abreu. The Yankees are really starved for P and maybe willing to deal Abreu for a SP.

Then you can trade Quentin & CoJack for Teixeira or Adam Dunn after he agrees to an extension.

Young
Hudson
Byrnes
Teixiera/Dunn
Abreu
Drew
Tracy
Snyder/Montero

Webb
Davis
Owings
Petit

At this point the dbacks can't trade Livo simply because they need his ability to eat innings now that TBU is done and Owings is having problems getting past the 5th inning.

Please no Adam Dunn, he's a Glaus/Sexton type of player, a good amount of HRs, but a low average and way too many strike outs, I really don't like that sort of player.

His average, at .263, is still better than most of our starters and his OBP would be among the best on the team too. I'd love him and his 50 home runs here if we don't give up Upton. We would finally have a #4 hitter and won't have to put a guy like CoJack there. I'd love to see him in the outfield replacing Quentin for the year.

I agree with this 100%...

...HOWEVER...

...it almost goes back to the attendance issue. Would making some sort of positive move maybe convince people that this team is trying to get it done now and thus would juice the attendance figures a little bit? I am not saying break the bank or kill the future but some sort of token-like move that would give the appearance of working for the now but with the idea of adding for the future instead?

I'd go to more games if we traded Baxter, the Rallybacks and the in game hosts for the Philly Fanatic, and I'm not even kidding.

This team is fun from the perspective they're young and doing well, but IMO you do a deal with a young team if you think you're one player away from a RING. I don't think you do a deal with a young team if you're just trying to win a pennant.

This team is more than one player away. The need a real RBI machine, and they need at least one more reliable starting pitcher. I think the D-Backs would've made a move if RJ had remained healthy, but without him, I think they knew the risk of trading away young talent for a mediocre player wasn't worth it.

So I'm satisfied. Let her ride and enjoy wherever this team goes. Now's not the time to divert from the plan that got you here.
