As far as the last owner and GM, that lack of financial restraint seemed to help us get Steve Nash and Raja Bell. (and before you throw out Googs, Penny and Longley much there no comaprison to two MAX deals and whatever the hell Longley got to a solid guy who can provide great depth or start if needed for 5.4 million.

IMO the last Phoenix Suns owner and general manager could have used a little financial restraint. First of all, no one even knows if the Phoenix Suns offered to Tim Thomas was the decision of the owner or the general manager(s). Of course everyone wants to blame Sarver, but I have no problem with the decision's so far this summer.

I want to see what they do next.

I am not on the blame Sarver band wagon yet... but the proof will be if the Suns can put the necessary quality depth on the floor.

Also I know that at the start of FA there is usually a feeding frenzy and a lot of teams over spend on players when the market first opens.

There will undoubtedly be some good bargains if the Suns have a plan. Almost every year there are a number of quality ball players which invariably will fall through the cracks or may be available in a trade after the initial frenzy is over. However, the Suns should already have a plan B in place and be working on it now.

But it was the GM who had a track record of knowing what he was doing/playing the FA market. This is DA's first go round and Sarver's first go round without a Colangelo at his side. I'll be waiting with baited breath to see how the Boris situation turns out and you know you will too.

Barbosa doesn't have that much value with him becoming a FA and most everyone expecting the Suns to keep Diaw over Barbosa as they most likely can't pay both.

JJ netted us two firsts and Diaw, that wasn't too bad. Barbosa won't fetch as much but for a capped out team that wants to add an impact scorer he might be worth something in a sign and trade. Hell, call Isiah maybe we can get two firsts and Channing Frye.

I can't really get upset with Sarver for being fiscally cautious right now. It is very hard to put a quality team on the floor without paying subsidizing the rest of the league through the luxury tax. The Suns have three All Stars, two first rate defense specialists who can shoot, the most improved player in the league and Barbosa has shown flashes of real talent.

The problem is that they are good enough that all deservie very good money. The incredible thing about this team is that they don't have anyone who is particularly overpaid. They just have a lot of very talented guys, which tends to drive up their payroll.

George, I agree with you.

The Suns do not have anyone who is highly paid and not producing.

Your right about the makeup of our roster. The Ideal way to keep the cap numbers down is to have your 2-3 good-great players and fill the roster with solid players on rookie contracts & vet minimum players as roll players.

After next year I think you will see afew big salaries like KT & Barbosa shipped out for draft picks or rookie contract players. So we can keep the big 3 pluss Diaw & Bell together for as long as we can.

We should have enough picks next year to either move up and get a real good player, or stand pat and get several solid players for the future.
