The latest NBA shockwaves are coming out of Denver.
With just a week remaining until the start of the postseason, Nuggets ownership decided to clean house, firing head coach Mike Malone Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Shama Charania. General Manager Calvin Booth also was fired, per ESPN.
The shocking news comes as the No. 4 seeded Nuggets hold a 47-32 record and the last Western Conference spot for first-round homecourt advantage. But the Nuggets are currently on a four-game losing streak and have three regular-season games remaining.
Two seasons ago, the Queens-native led the Nuggets to the franchise’s first NBA championship behind superstar Nikola Jokic after defeating the Miami Heat in a five-game NBA Finals series.
Malone, 53, went 471-327 in 10 seasons as Nuggets head coach.
Booth’s time in Denver also comes to an end. He assumed the role back in 2020.
