What happens if when the cards are the #2 seed? Do they play a few games at home and who would they be playing?

2 seed would give the Cards a first round bye. I believe they would play the highest seeded winner of the Wildcard round at home in round 2. Should they win that game then they would have to travel to the #1 seed for the NFC Championship should the #1 seed win their 2nd round game. If the #1 seed were to lose then the Cards would play the NFC Championship Game at home.

Best case scenario IMO is the NFC east winner and the last wildcard both win then we play the NFC east winner which would be the easier game then maybe Minnesota or GB beats Carolina and we host the title game.

So if the #1 seed loses, the winner comes to the Cards home in the third round for the NFC Championship?

Right now I think the most likely outcome for playoff seeds is
1. Carolina
2. Arizona
3. Green Bay
4. NFC Least Winner
5. Seattle
6. Minnesota

The opening round would have Minnesota at Green Bay and Seattle at the NFC East winner. I'm guessing that Seattle and Green Bay would win those games. The lowest remaining seed goes to #1 and the other team plays at #2. That would mean Seattle goes to Carolina and Green Bay comes here. A Carolina win means they host the NFC Championship and a Seattle wins means they travel to the winner of the Green Bay Arizona game. Assuming the Cardinals win the division that would mean Seattle has to win three road playoff games to make the Super Bowl.

I like our chances in your scenario. Seattle @ Carolina would be a bloodbath.

Do they re-seed if divisional opponents are scheduled to play each other in the wildcard round?

Not any longer. Not since some time in the '80s? Does anyone know the exact date when this restriction was removed?

As strange as it sounds, I would almost prefer the 2 seed if that is the outcome

If you believe (as I do) that today the three best teams in the NFC are the Cards, Carolina and Seattle -- Then this seeding of teams means the Cards would only have to face 1 of the two other top NFC teams

If the Cards win tomorrow, is the #2 seed locked up? I'm trying to figure out when the 1st home playoff would be so I can make plans/hotel reservations etc. Would this be on Jan 16 or 17?

No . A win does not lock up a 2nd seed.

A GB loss at Oakland combined with a Card win locks up #2

OK, assuming the Cards lock it up this week or next, a home game would still be the 16th or 17th, right?

Remember the last time we went to Carolina for a playoff game? I will never forget how cocky their fans were to the point of totally overlooking us and laughing at how we had chance whatsoever on every forum they could find. I also remember how no Carolina fan could be found anywhere on any board the following week after the game. Can you say 5 interceptions! Now that was a good year!

Actually, the last time was last year with Lindley leading the way, although I am sure we'd all like to forget that one and go back to the one you are referring to from the Super Bowl run.

Considering that the Cards led at halftime last year and were in it until late even with Lindlley, I don;t care about playing at Carolina as much as say GB or Seattle. Carolina is better this year, but so are the Cards. Still prefer a home game for the NFC Championship, of course.

Only if you assume that Green Bay will beat Minnesota. In Green Bay, likely by far from certain.

Didn't they go right down the field on first possession and score aTD? The place was going crazy and the announcers were giving them the game. If memory serves (probably doesn't) we scored 27 unanswered in the first half and took a 27-7 lead.

Obviously I meant the 2008 NFC Divisional game

NO! If the two wildcards WIN (and they're Seattle #5 and Minnesota #6), we'd then have to play Seattle in the second round. I'd much rather face GB then Seattle in the 2nd.

I remember our last playoff game in Carolina much differently.

Green Bay seemed to handle Minnesota pretty well in Minnesota, so it's not too far out of the realm of possibility that Green Bay should be able to beat Minnesota in Green Bay as well.

I said if the NFC east winner wins and the #6 seed win we would play the NFC east winner.
