I don't think Stanton plays scared at all---that kid is tough. He's battling through inexperience and playing versus some very tough defenses---most recently the Rams, the Lions and the Seahawks (possibly the three most disruptive d-lines in the NFL). It takes time and experience for the game to slow down for a QB. Right now Stanton is learning and doing his best.

You are correct, I was hard on him, I really meant that he still seems to be 'thinking' a lot during the game, his movement in the pocket isn't natural, seems like he is consciously working on it; when the routes are covered, he gets a little tentative. All likely related to being a backup and not having a lot of NFL gametime the last few years.

Good points---his movements are not natural because he is getting flushed inside into tight quarters too quickly, just as he is trying to read the coverage. Even Peyton Manning struggles with that.

What BA may want to do, imho, is move Stanton around much the way Chip Kelly is doing with Sanchez. This will improve his vision and buy added time. This offense is still strictly catered to CP's skillset. Is it time to cater it to DS's?

He has accuracy issues and a tendency to stare down receivers. That said, it would be helpful to have his #1 receiver and some semblance of a running game.

Absolutely, he is staring down receivers. I'm not sure he is seeing the receivers get open so he locks onto the one he thinks will get themselves open. As he plays, he'll either progress or he'll start looking like the last round of QBs.

I'm becoming convinced that the ability to read the field is what makes a QB successful, way more than arm strength or mobility or any other physical skill.
