MurphyGolden State Warriors: Don't blame Troy Murphy if he has to miss the first eight games of the season. "It's the type of thing where I wish that I had known from the beginning that it was torn, because then it would have been the type of thing where I would have been ready to play Wednesday," he said in the San Francisco Chronicle. "It's unfortunate, but we're just lucky that we caught it now." The report says that Murphy injured his foot early in training camp but the team waited two weeks before performing an MRI to find out the extent of the damage.
New Jersey Nets: Backup guard Lucious Harris knows that he hurt his back during a preseason game. It's what he doesn't know that's scarring him."We won't know anything until Tuesday," he said in the N.Y. Times. "I'm getting examined again by the doctors on Tuesday, when we hope the swelling will be down. I'm feeling a lot better, but I just don't know." If he is unable to return, the Nets may move Richard Jefferson into the guard position rather than use rookie Zoran Planinic or journeyman Doug Overton.
RobinsonPhiladelphia 76ers: While the rest of the league prepares for their season openers, Glenn Robinson is sitting back pondering the domestic assault conviction against his former fiancee that forced David Stern to suspend him for the first three games of the season. "I can't change [the suspension]. It is what it is," he said in the Philadelphia Inquirer. "So I'll just have to say that the first game of the season is a couple of days later than normal. I'll have to block it out. I'm just looking forward to getting past all this so I can go ahead." Robinson was also ordered to undergo anger management therapy. "We'll have to play without Glenn, so somebody else has got to step in there," head coach Randy Ayers said. "We've got to make sure we're organized, in terms of offensive execution and our rotations on defense."
Cleveland Cavaliers: For the second year in a row, Dajuan Wagner is going to have to watch the season opener on television. "This is frustrating because one of my main goals this year was to come back and play all year," Wagner said. "The only thing I can think about is getting back on the court. This is something I'll have to deal with." Wagner has yet to have surgery on his right knee because of complications arising from the medication he is taking for it. "That kind of throws a monkey wrench in this because I really need him," coach Paul Silas said. "If he was here it would've been a real battle because J.R. Bremer is playing really well. [A healthy Wagner] would give me a lot more flexibility."
Denver Nuggets: All things considered, a broken thumb wasn't such a bad thing for Nikoloz Tskitishvili. "I wasn't worried because I knew it wasn't going to be a problem," Tskitishvili said in the Denver Post. "Some people have knee problems, ankle problems or break arms. I broke a finger. I worried about how my game could be affected, but I was also lucky that I didn't have a big injury." The injury forced him to miss the last five preseason games but will make him available for the season opener.
