Sorry I will take the word of someone who works for the organization over yours. Just threatening to drag out the process to piss off the Suns ownership is 100% burning a bridge, especially when it is a brand new owner.

I can't recall a team ever matching before the end of the allotted time, but would be interested in hearing examples. Besides it gives the matching team time to pursue other signings while they still only have the QO on their books instead of the full contract.

I have no doubt the Suns would do the same if the situations were reversed, it's just sound business.

I highly doubt they are waiting the full time period just to "stick it" to the Suns. Once they match the offer they are at the cap limit. It's just smart business when you're under the cap to wait. They could sign someone else in the mean time. Bid on someone. They have room to move now. After they match, all those options are closed. Besides, even if the wait ties up the Suns a few days, the real "sticking it" isn't making the Suns wait, it's adding $8 mil. more to their cap over the next 3/4 years. Take that stupid Hornet fans! HA! :mulli:

Yeah, I was actually able to find some examples where the team didn't wait the full time but regardless I wouldn't consider this a burnt bridge and if the Suns do and will have no future dealings with the Hornets then that's just stupid.

Now what GSW did when they cancelled an agreed upon trade, that I would consider a burnt bridge(though they now have new ownership and FO so it's tough to say).

Who cares about burning bridges? Every NBA team should be looking out for its own interests above all others'. That's the point of competition. You don't soft-play your friends and save your best effort for your enemies.

I agree with this to a point. It's not like the Suns are doing the Hornets any favors. Have you seen how the contracts laid out? It's a pita for the Bees.

All the bonus money is spread out over the first 3 seasons, and the fourth year is a player option. So if they match they actually pay him the most expensive part of the contract over the first 3 years.

Edit: Sorry, didn't realize this was being discussed in another thread.

The Suns negotiated Gordan's contract for them. You're welcome.

Eddie's point was more that you always keep negotiations friendly in Sports both as a player and as a franchise. You never know when one will need your help.

Sports from an ownership / business side isn't as cut throat or as competitive as it is for fans.

I think you keep them "honest," but "friendly" doesn't make any sense to me. The rule is, if you go after another team's RFA, the original team gets to make you sweat for three days. That's just how it is. No one is being mean to anyone else.
