Just curious as to how many people here are more interested in the off-season soap opera regarding signings, trades, and the draft versus...

...the in-season. Games, trades, injuries, etc.

This board creates quite a buzz when the free agents are making their moves. But, only a few seem to be interested when the games count.

Am I perceiving this in the wrong way? Or, are there more of you who enjoy the in-season than I think?

The advantage of the off season is that anything is possible. Back when Bryant looked like a faint possibility, people could construct scenarios in which the Suns could conceivably be a title contender this year. That gets people excited.

Even now, we can imagine that the remaining cap money will bring an upgrade at center; that Johnson, Lampe, Barbosa, and Cabarkapa will show great strides; that D'Antoni will have been able to get the team to play more coherently; etc.

It's not just a Suns phenomenon. Once the season is under way, fans of most teams have to come to grips with the gradual realization that their team isn't nearly so good as they thought. If the team starts 10-22, most likely the other 50 games of the season aren't going to have a lot of meaning. And as hopes fade, so does the possibility of the team making a move with an immediate positive impact.

If the Suns are in the playoff hunt come January, I think you'll see plenty of interest. If they're not, it's not that we aren't interested -- it's just that there isn't much to say except, "Wait till next year."

I'm into Suns all year - I been collecting Suns games for year (college as well), sportscards, read these boards (Sunsbackcourt.com - golly forgot other board before this one) everyday, watch games all year (Draft prospects, potential Free Agent/trade pick-ups, and just to watch a Suns game) etc.

I do follow other Arizona teams as well ;) (Wildcats, D'Backs, Cardinals, and Mercury) but not a diehard.

A lot of times during the year, you watch the game and see a key play. Well, by the time you log on, there are two pages of posts and everyone has broke that one play into tiny microfractures! So, believe it or not, a lot of times I find there's nothing more to add. Either Slin, Elindholm, Joe Mama, Chap,or all four have argued what happend to the Nth degree. :D

also, there is usually only one or two threads for each game. Right now there are a dozen different possibilities to discuss. Players are moving and teams are trading.

I don't think it's that there is any less interest during the season. It's that there is less to discuss.

Welcome to the message board, Shaun. I hope you continue to post, but if not I hope you enjoy the reading anyways.

I live for the season. The off season is just biding time untill there is basketball again.

The draft and FA always provide a boost but really I can't wait until November.

Good thing we have the Diamondbacks and Cardinals until then. :D

I was just trying to look up the schedule and I get a page not found at www.usabasketball.com. What is up with that? Anyone else have a problem with that site right now? That is the correct site I hope.

Is Nash playing for the Canadian team?

Thats a good question. I know Cuban was always very much against it.

He hadn't been able to pursuade him against it in previous years, so I would assume he is playing.

Are they going to charge to watch Team USA games again this year? It's not on NBAtv either is it?

I like both the offseason and the inseason for different reasons.

Offseason because that is when you see changes with draft picks and FA's, not just the Suns but around the league.

Inseason, it is games all the time, and that is always fun. You can see people getting better, all that stuff.

Two different flavors of Suns fun...

It's all good!!!!

It is different during the season. For the most part fans like to talk about personnel moves. Take a look at the posts on the day of the Marbury trade if you want to see some serious in season action.

Another problem is that this board includes a number of people who are not able to watch the games. This really limits what people can say. Box scores are often very illuminating, but they can be pretty deceptive too since they don't measure individual defense and "the little things".

I write the in season column for the Suns ASFN during the season. I've generally had a pretty good response to my material, but it is worth noting that I write in a much more journalistic style with minimal pure opinion. I don't write much during the off season because there is not much objective material to write about - just opinion and rumor. Everybody can do that and it is great fun, but just not the same.
